After 12 hours of free agency done with, there was plenty of action around the league. NHL teams committed more than $400 million to free agents today. All of that money spent within a dozen hours, and how much of that was from the Sabres?...almost nothing. If you want to count the signing of Bagnall, go for it, but that wasn't much at all, and it was for Rochester.
I just wanted to touch on a few things that went on today. It was crazy, and the list of transactions is lengthy.
Goaltender wise, the Islanders re-signed Evgeni Nabokov, Ray Emery went to Philadelphia, Dan Ellis went to Dallas, Anton Khudobin went to Carolina, and Khabibulin went to Chicago. That's not all of the goaltender signings, but just the bigger ones.
That certainly hurts the market value for Miller, but there is still the possibility of a trade. However, a few of those teams showed interest in Miller and no longer need a starting goalie. If the Sabres can't work out a fair trade for Miller, they may be better off just keeping him here for at least another year.
The Sabres division is stacked, but Buffalo is not. The Sabres are really going to be up against the wall next season.
The Red Wings added Alfredsson and Weiss, and Ottawa acquired Bobby Ryan. With the new alignment coming into play this season, it could be a rough season, yet again, for Buffalo. There could be quite a battle for the top few spots, but right now, I don't see the Sabres coming anywhere close.
Jarome Iginla heading to Boston has to be the funniest thing I've seen all day. Unless you're a Bruins fan, I believe most are hoping the Penguins knock Boston out of the playoffs next season, assuming they both make it.
For the poll below, remember that the new division will have eight teams, adding Detroit, Florida and Tampa Bay to the mix.
