The Carolina Hurricanes played four games this week and also completed a notable trade. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

The Hurricanes picked up seven of eight possible points this week, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning, while also picking up a point in an overtime loss to the Florida Panthers.

Just after acquiring forward Alex Galchenyuk from the Ottawa Senators, the Hurricanes dealt the forward to the Toronto Maple Leafs, in exchange for forward Egor Korshkov and defenseman David Warsofsky.

Goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic picked up his first NHL shutout last night, in a 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nedeljkovic turned away 24 shots in the victory.

Teuvo Teravainen missed Carolina's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night, as a result of an upper-body injury. Teravainen has two goals and nine points in 12 games so far this season.

As for our poll questions this week, here are some of the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Do you like the Galchenyuk (TOR) trade for the Hurricanes?

(Votes: 458)

Yes: 68%
No: 32%

Galchenyuk can still be a solid NHL forward, despite his slow start, but he wasn’t really going to fit with the Hurricanes. Egor Korshkov could be a future member of Carolina’s bottom-six and continuing to build a prospect pool, in exchange for a player on an expiring contract, makes sense for the Hurricanes.

QUESTION: Who would you rather have in the lineup?

(Votes: 40)

Jake Bean: 65%
Haydn Fleury: 35%

Bean certainly has a higher ceiling and can contribute quite a bit more offensively. That said, he’s been a bit of a liability in his own end so far, whereas Haydn Fleury has been pretty decent defensively this season.

QUESTION: Is it time for the Hurricanes to do what it takes to find an upgrade in net?

(Votes: 29)

Yes: 83%
No: 17%

The Hurricanes have established themselves as a contender at this point but goaltending is certainly still a concern. If they can’t find an upgrade, their situation in net could be a problem for them.
