The Carolina Hurricanes swept their series against the Dallas Stars, earning a shootout win in the second half of their two-game series last night.

The Hurricanes dominated the entire first period, as well as a good portion of the second. Up until the Stars scored their first goal, the shots were 18-5 for Carolina. After the Stars scored, however, they began to climb back into the game and started getting some good chances.

Offensively, the Hurricanes had a strong game. They were getting chances, both while set up in the zone and on the rush. Defensively, the Hurricanes started really strong but broke down a bit as the game went on. Each of Dallas’ goals involved one of Carolina’s defenders looking pretty bad, with Dougie Hamilton, Jake Bean and Jake Gardiner all having some trouble.

James Reimer was okay, though all of the goals were fairly stoppable. That said, players were getting left in pretty good locations on each of the goals, which didn’t make his job any easier, and he came up big in the shootout.

The Hurricanes were the better team and did get the win, it was just some bad breakdowns that made this into a really close game. Regardless, the Hurricanes have been strong since returning to game action last week and are off to a great start this season.
