I’m far from an Upper Deck shill. I’ve had plenty of beef with some of their practices at times (the whole concept of “event worn… memorabilia, while not unique to UD, is a lazy and misleading piece of work), and they’ve certainly got more reputation saving (i.e., counterfeit cards anyone?) to complete before they’re completely in my good books again. That being said, I’m a sucker for moves that, albeit in the name of advertisement, put some product in the hands of the fans, especially the kids, so here we go…
Tomorrow, Saturday, February 14th 2015 is National Hockey Card Day in Canada! Free cards will be handed out to fans across the country in hobby shops and chain stores, with some retailers offering packs, while Toys R Us stores will be offering 9-card sheets. The set consists of 15 cards, with a 16th card available at hobby shops with a $10 UD card purchase. Also, randomly inserted in packs will be 25th Anniversary Young Gun cards, including former players Ron Francis, Pierre Turgeon, Vincent Damphousse, Theo Fleury, and Doug Harvey, while a few autographed cards will be floating around in the odd pack, so hey, you never know!
So jump on out to your local Toys R US, London Drugs or neighbourhood hobby shop to get in on this action! For those who are unsure as to where your closest hobby shop might be, head on over here to access a pdf list of the participating stores in Canada.
