Who Am I? #2

Another round of “Who Am I?” is on your plate, and folks, I’m hoping it’s about top become more challenging!!! The first two editions have been a bit too easy given the speed with which they have been solved so I’m kicking it up a notch. No more gimmes here! Things are going to be tougher in terms of people and clues moving forward so I hope you’re all up to task!

As a refresher, here’s how we play: You get 10 facts about an individual in the game of hockey, past or present. Can you identify the person on the basis of only this information? Enough of this Google BS in trying to figure it out too! Use those noggins and figure it out on your own! Post your answers in the comments, and I will post the answer in the next edition questions.

So before we get going, here’s last week’s answers:

1) I was drafted out of college.

(Cornell University in the 1985 draft)

2) I was a Calder Trophy winner.

(1987-88 Season)

3) I won a Conn Smythe Trophy as well as the playoff MVP trophy for a sport other than hockey.

(Minto Cup [Canadian National Lacrosse Championship] MVP in 1984 for the Whitby Warriors, a team he played alongside friend, and future three-time NHL teammate, Gary Roberts.)

4) I played for five different NHL teams.

(Calgary, Dallas, New Jersey, Toronto, Florida)

5) I won three Stanley Cups: each in a different decade and each for a different team.

(1989 in Calgary; 1999 in Dallas; 2003 in New Jersey)

6) I was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award.

(1987; Won by Tony Hrkac)

7) Although retired as a player, I remain employed in the NHL.

(GM of the Dallas Stars)

8) I have a trophy named after me in a sport other than hockey.

(The Joe Nieuwendyk award is given annually to the most outstanding rookie in Ontario Junior A lacrosse)

9) I got my latest job after a former teammate was fired.

(Brett Hull as co-GM of the Dallas Stars)

10) I had my college jersey retired on the same night as a Hall of Fame, Stanley Cup winning goaltender of an original six team did.

(Ken Dryden of the Montreal Canadiens)

“Who Am I?”: I’m Joe Nieuwendyk!

Now for this week’s mystery hockey personality!!!

1) I played for only two teams during my 15 year NHL career.

2) I am a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame

3) I was the first player drafted on my original club in their first year in the NHL.

4) I scored at least 20 goals every season of my career except the last.

5) I played in only one Stanley Cup final, for the losing team, yet have won two Cups.

6) I retired due to a head injury.

7) I played a single season in the WHA.

8) I scored at more than a point a game pace during my playing career.

9) I scored 50 goals in four consecutive seasons.

10) I was the first player in NHL history whose contract was written entirely in French.

Best of luck folks! Hope this one is more challenging than the last two!
