"What If...?" #25: You Could Own Any Odd Piece Of Hockey Memorabilia?

Of all the things one could focus on, and you choose THAT?!?!?

You’re given a 55 second time frame to highlight a variety of memorabilia pulled out of the old Maple Leaf Gardens that are about to go on sale via auction at your business, including Stanley Cup banners, penalty boxes, player banners, numerous team plaques, player portraits, miniature Stanley Cups, building fixtures. What do you focus on with only that much time?

If you’re Hersh Borenstein, President/Operator of Frozen Pond in Toronto, you use your time economically, running pictures of a variety of the items in the background while taking the precious narration time to focus on three of the more important items: a 1967 Stanley Cup banner, a miniature replica Cup awarded to Eddie Shack in 1962, and……

…the locker room crapper? Well, I guess if you already own a net from the old gardens you could buy this and become the proud owner of where numerous Leafs put some biscuits in the basket AND pinched some loaves…

All kidding around aside, this auction has a tonne of cool memorabilia available, and even if (like me) you likely couldn’t afford any of this stuff, it is great to have a look at. Head on over to The Frozen Pond and take a look at all the items available. Some cool stuff in there with more lots to hit the tally!

A toilet is an odd piece of memorabilia, this much is true. While you might not be willing to pony up to buy where Dougie left his doody, I think we could all think of something else a bit unique, oddball or off the beaten path to have at home as memorabilia. So I ask you:

What if you could own any piece of oddball memorabilia? What would you want to have? Not just arena-based either. As long as it’s hockey related it’s game!

Do you have a piece of treasured memorabilia that has a great story behind it? Let me know and you can be featured in an article. Doesn't matter how big or small the piece is, how valuable it may be, or whether it's a common item or more oddball. If you think it has a story, contact me via the information below and we'll chat. In the meantime, check out some previous "Display Case" articles via the links below to see what others have submitted in the past...
