The Los Angeles Kings picked up another important win last night, defeating the Minnesota Wild 2-1. It marked the end of an eight-game winning streak for the Wild, who lead the Western Conference.

The Kings started really strong for the second game in a row, drawing some penalties and by about the midway point of the frame, the Kings' advantage in shots was as much as a 9-2 margin. Despite some good chances though, the Kings went 0-for-3 on their power play opportunities and the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.

It took most of the second period to get the first goal of the game, as the Wild opened the scoring on a power play, with Marcus Foligno tipping in Matt Dumba’s point shot. The Kings didn’t take long to draw even after that though, as Phillip Danault followed up on his own rebound and beat Kaapo Kahkonen to tie the game before the intermission.

In the final frame, Brendan Lemieux, who was returning from his five-game suspension, gave the Kings the lead, burying a loose puck in front of the net. Jonathan Quick had to remain sharp, stopping 15 shots in the third period, as the Kings held on for the win.

This was another strong game for the Kings against a good team. They managed nearly 40 shots once again and were the better team through a good portion of the game.

A piece of bad news coming out of the game though was that Alex Edler is expected to be out long-term, after sustaining a leg injury in the first period. He’s already been placed on injured reserve and his absence will leave yet another hole on the blue line.

On the more positive side though, the Kings have put together a really solid stretch of games, aside from the loss against Vancouver. They’ve improved to 12-10-4 this season and hopefully they can carry some momentum into what will be a very difficult road trip.
