Defenseman Kale Clague was claimed by the Montreal Canadiens today, after being placed on waivers by the Los Angeles Kings.

Clague is 23 years old and managed five assists in 11 games with the Kings this season, after being called up due to injuries. He was originally selected by the Kings in the second round of the 2016 Draft and has played a total of 33 NHL games, registering 11 points.

It’s certainly unfortunate to see Clague get claimed, given he’s still young and showed his offensive upside, getting big minutes on the team’s power play. The Kings do have a pretty deep prospect pool on defense and have somewhat of a crowded defense group already, that said, I still think he has the potential to be a decent offensive NHL defender, and him being claimed shows other teams may feel the same.
