Sooner than expected

Well Sens fans were treated to somewhat of a surprise today, as goalie coach Eli Wilson was 'relieved' of his duties.

In short Eli Wilson was fired today because of the performances of all of the Senators goalies since he was hired.

It's hard to argue with results as Emery, Gerber, Auld, Leclaire and to an extent Elliott have all developed very similar performance problems, and seemed to regress in their respective development phases.

All goalies have developed similar rebound control issues as their time with Ottawa and Eli progressed.

If you need a clearer example watch a few games from the start of the season, and compare Pascal Leclaire's puck control to more recent games. It has noticeably faltered as of late.

Obviously Eli is taking the heat for the current goalie performances but in all honesty he hasn't done himself any favours based on the goalie developments.

As I said at the top of the blog, this is 'somewhat' of a surprise. I say that because it was widely expected that Eli wouldn't likely be around after the 10/11 season, as there were rumblings of the Sens bringing in Michael Lehner (Robin's dad, Kind Lundy's development coach and a piece of the Swedish national teams) as a goaltending coach/consultant.

There are obviously numerous hurdles and issues that needed to be worked out before Michael Lehner came in but for now these aren't issues as he likely isn't on Bryan Murray's radar at the moment or if he is these become none issues, as Murray needs a replacement and needs one right away.

As it stands there are only suggestions/rumours on who will be the new goalie coach, at this point it's anyone’s guess.
