After a lackluster showing yesterday in Toronto, the Canadiens will look to grab their first preseason win tonight when they take on the Jets. Aside from Pierre-Luc Dubois, the big names are rare in Winnipeg’s line-up for tonight. No Scheifele, no Wheeler, no Connor, no Hellebuck but both Brad Lambert and Ville Heinola should be worth keep an eye out for.

As for the Habs, Arber Xhekaj, Chris Wideman and Emil Heineman will be playing a 2nd game in as many nights and offensively speaking, there will be more regulars in action:

I’ll keep a close eye on the Canadiens’ second line since Caufield and Dach took a lot of reps together in informal skates since the later arrived in Montreal earlier this month, there were even whispers that perhaps, the Caufield-Suzuki duo could be split to ease Dach in. Obviously, there would need to be a lot of chemistry for that to happen, but it’s worth seeing what they can do.

In his post practice presser, St-Louis was asked about the Dadonov-Dvorak-Gallagher line and the fact that they’ve been together on every occasion we’ve seen them so far. The coach said that while the 3 players were very different, they all bring something to the table and complete each other well. As for Dadonov’s work in the bumper position on the power play, he said that the Canadiens’ new acquisition is very good at puck retrieval and then getting back into position, going as far as calling him a Dennis Rodman kind of player, high praise from the coach.

With the Rocket’s training camp starting this weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a big wave of cuts either after tonight’s game or tomorrow morning. After all, St-Louis has said that he wants to get closer to his real line-up as the season approaches and with 3 of 8 preseason games played it’s getting near to that time, although there is another back-to-back next week on Monday and Tuesday, so they need to have enough players on hand for those.

The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight and can be watched on RDS, TSN 2 and TSN3.
