For the first time in his career, Kaiden Guhle will get to play for Team Canada at the World Championships. He competed for Canada at the Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2021 World Junior Championships, but this will be his first time with the senior team.

At the end of the season, Guhle confirmed he had missed the last seven games because of a concussion suffered when hit by Nikita Kucherov on April 4 in the Canadiens 7-4 defeat. Guhle has played 70 games this season and gathered 22 points.

There was no sophomore jinx for the young blueliner and he’s fast becoming an integral part of the Canadiens’ defense corps. He averaged over 20 minutes of ice time this year and he could handle even more. If he stays healthy Guhle should be on the Canadiens’ blue ice for a long time.

The sole worry however is his health. The concussion suffered late in the season was far from his first one. He’s also been injured to a knee and an ankle in his career. Considering how many times he’s been out with an injury, I would have liked him to refuse the invitation, but on the other hand, he will get good experience. Hopefully he really is all better from the concussion.
He will get to play against Cole Caufield who will be suiting up for Team USA, Juraj Slakovski who is still expected to join Slovakia after he’s done having medical procedures in Montreal and, Habs’ prospect Filip Mesar.

In other news, only two days to go (including today) until the NHL holds the draft lottery and we know where the Habs will keep, this will be of great help to those who keep speculating about who the Canadiens will draft. The Canadiens have 8.5% chance to get the first overall pick, don’t hold your breath though, it would be quite surprising.
