The Calgary Flames have announced they've traded veteran winger Alex Tanguay and defenseman Cory Sarich to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for winger David Jones and defenseman Shane O'Brien.

Jones, 28, was acquired to help add some scoring punch to the team. While he is coming off a poor season where he found the net just three times in 33 games, he does have a history of scoring goals as he scored 20 or more in each of his first two full seasons in the NHL.

Jones carries a $4 million cap hit and is signed through the 2015-16 season.

O'Brien, 29, is a defensive defenseman who will add size and physicality to the Flames back end. He is signed through 2014-15 and carries a $2 million dollar cap hit.

Quick note: For those wondering, I now also cover the Flames for Hockeybuzz. Colin hasn't gone anywhere, we're just doubling up coverage because of the large fanbase.

I'll have more on that in my new post tomorrow.
