NHL free agency opens up today but Columbus' biggest move will almost certainly be re-signing one of their own.

Highest priority, of course, is extending left winger Brandon Saad, who the Blue Jackets acquired in a blockbuster deal on Tuesday.

Until Saad signs an extension he is open to an offer sheet, however, Columbus has plenty of cap space and just moved a ton of assets for Saad so they're not about to let him go.

In terms of unrestricted free agents the Blue Jackets probably won't do much. Mark Letestu is expected to brought back now that several forwards have been moved.

Beyond that the Blue Jackets would like to add to their blue line but I doubt they're about to pay a premium for the guys on the market.

One free agent they're talking to is Paul Martin, according to Aaron Portzline.

I really like Martin but it's probably not a great idea to give him a long-term deal. If he's willing to sign three-year deal at a reasonable price he'd be a nice addition for the Blue Jackets but I'm not sure it's a good idea to go beyond that.

Another player GM Jarmo Kekalainen and co. could target is former Blue Jacket John Moore but I don't know that he'll be a Day 1 signing.

Regardless of what the Blue Jackets do in free agency they should still be quite active in terms of retaining their own.
