Its so hard to be a Buffalo Sabres fan... We are not asking for much, just a little taste of the post season...If we got that every year or three, no one would complain and we might actually show up for a game or two. |

Why would any team make an offer sheet for a 1 year contract? You'd give up a bunch of good picks as compensation but then potentially have the player walk the following year? |

Offer sheets rarely make sense, which is one of the many reasons that they are ever signed... |

They rarely don't get matched, but they do all get signed otherwise we'd never hear about it.
I don't think there's really enough recent history to be able to take a position one way or the other. Holloway and Broberg last year have worked out excellent for the Blues, to date. Kotkaniemi in 2021 definitely wasn't a homerun for CAR but wasn't terrible either. The last offer sheet before that that was not matched was Dustin Penner in 2007 and that one seemingly had mixed results |

Not if they're still an RFA. That's what CAR did with Kotkaniemi. They paid him $6M for one year with the understanding he knew they were overpaying him and they renegotiated an extension that more accurately reflected the player he was.
If you don't overpay teams are probably always going to match it, that's why they're relatively rare. |

"Of all the Ed SnIder moves I have ever seen, this had to be the “Ed Snidery-est.” Kind of brilliant when you think about it."
Back when that team had balls and the not the slit it has today! |

so he could get drafted, sour on Buffalo, and go win a cup on another team like everyone else?
Don't know why you'd wish that on anyone.
