Great write up K!

At one stage, 7 or 8 players had specifically said they didn't want to be next to Subban as he was preventing them from concentrating prior to the game.

And people wonder..

nobody said he was perfect Pete, but it's like with Trudeau, I don't get why you passionately hate him... but whatever

it does sound like a very interesting read, but I think it should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is Gervais' perspective, and it isn't necessarily all factual (it appears some of the things he says in the book aren't entirely true...).

The "old school" guys (players and fans) that believe in an "outdated code" are not big fan of players with huge personalities or people that like the limelight for the sake of it.

I liked PK, as a Habs fan, he was fun to watch, entertaining and I thought very likeable (and most important, always himself - no some fake front lots of players put on for the camera).

Hockey needs a lot more PK Subbans if they want to expand their viewership.

yeah, I also tend to think this way, as a lot of hockey players are very bland and kind of robotic in the way they address fans and the media, although I do find there could've been a middle ground between his personality and the way it might have negatively affected other guys in the locker room.

PK is the direct opposite of everything that was drilled into their heads since they were 10-years-old.

So I get why he rubs players the wrong way... but NHL players are so (frank)ing bland and boring. If you take all the mid/post game interviews, and analyzed them, 98% of the answers are all the same across players.

All monotone.

I guess the sport's traditions and mentalities simply evolve very slowly... for example, one day perhaps we'll accept the kind of celebratory "handshake" that Price and Subban used to have, before they were told it wasn't acceptable anymore lol

So, you'd want 32 PK personalities in the league?

That's roughly 250 players that dislike their team mate.

Not sure how good that would be..

I dunno if that was hockey or just Therrien lol... but yeah, hockey is slowly evolving. As for players being boring for the most part and the generic answers, I so agree... I mean Shea Weber might have been a great leader and an even better man, but boy was he bland and boring

It's best to be bland when you're raping every girl that comes within 5 feet of you in junior.

yeah, I think it's okay to have a quiet captain that leads by example on the ice, but also to have other more intense personalities on the team that can bring a different kind of vibe and energy.

Nick Suzuki isn't all that exciting during interviews, but he does have a certain swag to his game on the ice, which is really nice to see.
