I wouldn't be against trading one of them in a deal for a Tarasenko/Dunn package. I'd do it in a heart beat.
Zucker/Pettersson/Légaré/Pick for instance. |

A source for statistical analysis has a guy listed at 5'12"... not sure I care about what the rest of the chart says if you can't even get rounding of someone's height in your calculations right.
Either way, I think everyone is realistic about what these guys are. I think skating is the only thing that could hold these two guys back. Neither are elite skaters. Poulin is a really good overall player and Legare can really shoot the puck. This year is a bit of an abberation if you ask me. I'd give Poulin a 50-50 shot of becoming a good middle six contributor and Legare about 50-50 at being a really good bottom 6 player.
I don't think that means you just trade the guys. If you want to get a top prospect and you pair one of these guys with something else then cool. If we aren't really high on these guys, other teams aren't likely to overpay us for them either.
The guy you should be trading before the shine wears off is Marino. |

He is 7200 centinches. Or if we want to use more conventional units, he is 1.829 x 10^9 nanometers and 0.000987 nautical miles tall. |

As you can clearly see, A is 10, B is 30, and C is 20. Therefore, B is more than C, and C is more than A. |

RW is hilarious
He simultaneously complains about not having any effective ELC players in the lineup to extend the window, and how the prospect cupboard is bare while, for years, advocating for trading every high pick and prospect we do have because "The Window is Now"

Both can be and are true. Poulin/Legare aren't "high picks," they aren't on anyone's prospect radar. |

But Poulin and Legare aren't guys who will be effective in the next 2-3 years. If you can turn them into players who are effective currently due to perceived future value, then you can do it.
The problem is that continually trading first-round picks to "win now" means that you have less of a chance to get a player on an ELC who can step in and be effective immediately. |

Goes beyond these specific 2 guys though
The underlying complaint theme for years has been
1) We don't have any value players on ELC's
2) The prospect cupboard is bare
3) Draft picks are worthless because they are no better than lottery picks and we are better off trading them for ready now players
4) The window is always "Right now" not a year or two from now (this was true even 3 seasons ago) so its imperative we continue this cycle
All the while he's been unable to sew this fabric together that if we had kept the picks/prospects, and possibly obtained more, maybe the prospect pool wouldn't be empty and we'd have guys in the lineup that were effective and on ELC's
I'm not complaining about the Pens process, but you can't advocate for one, and then b1tch about the other when the underlying strategy is linked

JMO, Pens could have gone to the ECF with a better tender. I don't think anyone was beating Tampa.
It's a fair point however. Some holes/wants are gonna be easier to patch than others. Tending is my #1 wish. Bigger RW for Sid's line would be my #2. Tough physical D would be my #3. - madmike71
I 100% endorse your wish list. |

That's what I'm saying
Every prospect is 2 or 3 years away, including guys we may have traded 2 or 3 years ago
And in 2 or 3 years, we'll be lamenting that Geno and Sid are 36/37 and we don't have any young/cheap ELC level players

How do you get to this? What's the thought process?
I would obviously love for you to be right but from what I've seen of both you're majorly on the optimistic side for them.
I wonder if them probably being the top 2 Pens prospects gives an illusion of them being top prospects over all... |

Dont know what they can do until they play in the big boy lineup. Rust, Kuhnhackl, Sheary, Guentzel etc. were just prospects that should be traded for over the hill dog poop wingers too I'm sure. Play some kids, throw in some cheap grinders who need paychecks to fill out the bottom slots and make some room. Lots of cheaper players who can be slotted in who can add some hunger. This lineup is Soffff |

I agree with this. Whatever the chances are, the Pens desperately need some value contracts. And they are talking about adding size that has some skill. Well, here you go.
Pens have dealt the prospects plenty of times. It's ok to hang on to some. I'd argue having some prospects pan out is the only way the Pens can continue to be competitive in Sid and Malkin's final years. A third of the team needs new contracts next year and all the supporting players are in a position to get a raise.
Also, basing a player's NHL success completely on his scoring stats is dumb. Especially if they bring other attributes. Those are still better numbers than Tom Wilson put up. |
