So if the Sabres continue their awful play, there could be a silver lining in a few years.
Good to know. - The Don
I am still hoping the Canadiens pick him and try to force him at centre. |

Habs should trade everyone and everything to make sure to draft Lafrenière.

Pretty much what I've said about every 1st overall the last almost decade. I can't wait for the Bruins to get another one someday and trade his ass! |

He's tracking similar to Matthews and Eichel, but without their size. Haven't seen enough of him, will have stuff after the U18's. |

they would need the 1st round pick from all 17 non playoff teams in 2019-2020. that'd be a lot of trades |

McDavid was 10 months younger than Lafreniere in that season, so hard to compare them. Tavares as well isn't a great comparison as he had already played a full season of OHL before that season. Both of them were exceptional player tags in the CHL.
Crosby put up 135 points in 59 games in a season he was 2 months older than Lafreniere this season. MacKinnon put up 78 points in 58 games being a month older.
This is where the birthday just before or just after the draft skews your numbers. I think these 2 are your best comparables.
Monahan, Hall, and Patrick are all good age comparisons, but none were close to being hyped as much as Lafreniere, none were 1st overall picks in their respective CHL drafts.
Mario Lemieux is also a good comparable despite the size difference. Late birthdays who went 1st in their Q drafts. Lemieux played in a higher scoring generation and I think Lafreniere's rookie Q season is among the best ever for a late birthday who started as a 15 year old.
Anyhow, I do think Lafreniere is going to be an absolute stud. He is more like Crosby than he is McDavid, but he is going to be fantastic. |
