THE ULTIMATE SET BUILD #2:

1981-82 O-Pee-Chee

USB2a 001

USB2b 001

This was a “bring back memories” choice, being one of the first sets of cards I collected as a kid! This Jari Kurri rookie card comes from the 81-82 OPC release, and gives a great example of the base card design present in this set.

Standout in this release is the team-matched border and text colouring on the front, while the backs were consistent across the set with blue-beige colouring. As opposed to the Topps release, this set is bilingual, with the position on the front and layer write-up on the back printed in both English and French.

The set contained 396 cards in total with no subsets. Notable rookies included:

Denis Savard
Darryl Sutter
Jari Kurri
Glenn Anderson
Paul Coffey
Kevin Lowe
Andy Moog
Larry Murphy
Dino Ciccarelli
Keith Acton
Duane Sutter
Peter Stastny
Dale Hunter
Anton Stastny
Dave Babych

The highest booking cards in the set are the Wayne Gretzky base card (#106, as opposed to his #125 Super Action card) and Paul Coffey rookie card, both of which come in at a high end of $80.00.

The set contains 3rd year Gretzky cards and 2nd year Messier & Bourque.

This is a “condition sensitive” set, meaning that something about the way the set was produced (i.e., poor paper stock, colors susceptible to fading/chipping) make it difficult to find these cards in "mint"/”near mint” condition.
