One of the cooler things about tapping into the scuttlebutt of the collectibles world is the overflow. What I mean by this is that even if you’re doing your best to focus on one sport specifically, you’re inevitably going to see some nuggets of interest leak into your reading, searches, and web alerts along the way. While there was a time that this would annoy the hell out of me, I have thankfully softened a bit and take these in with a sense of curiosity and walk away at the very least with some more random information clogging up my head!

The range of memorabilia that unintentionally hits my radar is pretty stunning at times. Not only can they include the other major North American sports (baseball, basketball, football), but broader international sports (soccer, cricket, car racing, golf), combat “sports” & sports (e.g., MMA, boxing, pro wrestling), movies and television, politics and historical events. There is zero doubt as to why we’re at the site: it’s for the hockey! That being said, sometimes it’s interesting to step off the ice and see what’s getting some action in the marketplace as a whole.

I hope you’ll get a kick out of the occasional field trip into the broader hobby world!

Ticket From Jordan’s First NBA Game

October 26th 1984 at the Chicago Stadium. Forty minutes played, 16 points scored, with six rebounds and seven assists. We know where he went from there (six championships and a hall of fame induction later…)

Total cost for a ticket stub from that game? How about a cool $264,000 US?

Fonzie’s Motorbike

Specifically, a 1949 Triumph Trophy 500 as owned by actor Henry Winkler and used on the TV show “Happy Days” as he portrayed the man himself, Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli.
Original estimates saw a potential $80,000 to $120,000 top bid for the iconic motorcycle. When all was said and done, the final bid exceeded this by almost double the ceiling, landing a substantial $231,562 for the actor.

Hugh Hefner’s Viagra Pill Bottle

Originally limping in at a $1000-$2000 estimated fetch, bidders rose to the occasion, battling hard to a final $7860 price . Who is the purchaser? Darren Rovell, previously of ESPN fame. I guess something about this item was arousing to him. I will stop now…
