Boston comes to town as the first overall team in the league, 12 points clear of its nearest pursuant the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins also have the best goal differential with a whopping +81, having scored 177 goals (2nd only to the Oilers who have 188) while only giving up 96 (the 2nd best team has given up 121 goals). The flaws in their game will be hard to find and it feels like even without all the injuries, this would have been a hard mission for Montreal.

Once again tonight, the Habs will be going with 11 forwards and 7 defenseman, Chris Wideman will be a healthy scratch, while Sean Monahan is still practicing in a no contact jersey. In goal, it will once again be Samuel Montembeault between the pipes, for an 8th consecutive game. Hopefully, Jake Allen will soon be ready to return because the Canadiens seem dead set on not giving the net to Primeau and it would be silly to overwork Montembeault in a meaningless season.

After taking a maintenance day yesterday, Kirby Dach was back at the morning skate centering the 2nd line. I’m glad that even with Caufield’s absence, the Habs have resisted the urge to put Dach and Suzuki back together. Kent Hughes has said that in the long-term, he sees Dach as a center and considering his confidence is sky high right now, the timing is just right to let him grow as a center, after all, this season is about development.

Following their unexpected win against the Leafs on Saturday night, the Canadiens will hope to be able to bring the same energy and determination to this game against yet another bitter rival. Although, its hard to maintain a rivalry when a team is firing on all cylinders while the other is way down in the standing and embracing its need to rebuild. Still, perhaps the pride of wearing the jersey will be enough to allow the young Habs to mess with the heavy favorites.
