KHL's champions AkBars Kazan celebrated their victory by doing a parade in the streets of the city. One of the players couldn't manage to finish the party in a positive way - on his way home Jaroslav Kosov was pulled over and caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
''On May 31st AkBars Forward Kosov was arrested by the staff of Ministry of internal affairs of Tatarstan republic. On the scene, a protocol was written and players drivers license had been removed,'' stated AkBars press-release. ''Hockey club AkBars condemns players actions which lead to such circumstances. Professional athletes have to show an example and with honor represent teams colors. With the administrative penalty from the government, the club has also decided to punish the player.''
Kosov is likely to face suspension of his driver's license from one and a half to two years.
As the witnesses have stated the event was quite interesting - Kosov decided to take a cab home instead of driving himself but at some point, he made an offer to the cab driver to switch places because apparently, the cab was driving too slowly. State police also confirmed that a protocol has been issued to the cab driver that handed over the vehicle to a person who was intoxicated.
It has been also stated that this isn't the 1st time that Kosov has got into trouble - in 2015 he was arrested while intoxicated in Magnitogorsk.
24-year old had received a qualifying offer from AkBars team but per team source - He is likely parting ways with the team and trade options are being considered.
