Shifting gears from all of the NHL Draft talk, it looks like the Hawks will be well represented in the upcoming World Championships.

There have been some late additions but it appears the 9 players and prospects will be representing Chicago:

USA: Kane (C), Debrincat, Murphy and Oesterle
Sweden: Gustafsson
Russia: Anisimov, Shalunov
Slovakia: Jurco
Germany: Kahun

Yesterday, some disappointing news for arguably the Blackhawks top prospect, Henri Jokiharju that he didn’t make the Finnish team. He played really well leading up to the roster selection, but Finland wanted to go with more experience… and Ville Pokka.

I was excited to see how Jokiharju would have performed against men in this tournament, but I guess we’ll have to wait until September now.

Hawks fans will get to check out newly signed Dominik Kahun. Born in the Czech Republic, Kahun grew up in Germany and will suit up for them as the number #2 centre behind Leon Draisaitl.

There’s a good chance that Kanun (22-years old) starts in the AHL, however, his (re)adjustment to North American ice should be like riding a bike as he played for the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL from 2012-14. Also, listening to interviews, he speaks English well which will help him as he enters training camp in the fall.
The World Championships kick off this Friday with their preliminary schedule. The tournament concludes on May 20th when the Bronze and Gold Medal games will be played.

For all scheduling details, check it: https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/team-canada/men/national/2017-18/world-championship/stats/schedule

I’ll be back with a Rockford/Manitoba series preview on Friday.

See ya out there!
