Rangers fans: defend one core player to stay that you really want gone |

The conference finals inch their way towards conclusion. Carolina said not so fast to being eliminated Monday to Florida while Edmonton appears to have taken a stronghold on their series against Dallas. If both series remain in current pace, we will get a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Final. All we can do as Rangers’ fans is hope that management sees what each of the four squads still playing have in common and what’s need to get the team back to here they were in 2022 and 2024.
The prior blog asked you to pick one player to go, just one, and provide rationale as to why you chose that player. Most of the selections were not surprising. I am hoping this blog will result in some interesting players profiled and debates.
This column flips the script on the last one. Instead of voting on who to jettison from Rangers Island, you need to select one player; who you normally would to go, to stay with the team. My request though is that you pick someone who is a bottom line player or third pair d-man, but profile a bigger name.
Several of you have made more than clear who you wanted to be punted to the moon. My request is that’s who wrote up to stay with the case made as to why that player should remain. Use advanced metrics, the eye test, both or other to make your best case. I ask the readers to review and weigh in on the potency of the argument made and if that sways your view.
Pick one player from the core of the team to stay that you normally would want to go. Just one, that's it.
Sounds easy. But knowing how polarizing certain players have been, making the case as to why that person should stay may not be that easy. I am hoping that this exercise provides some balance to the trigger reaction of dumping. We shall see.
