Game Summary:
Well, if crow tastes good with stuffing I’ll give it a go. Detroit is sitting in a playoff spot at Thanksgiving. There are some mitigating factors, for sure. Injuries galore, a ridiculous start by Boston, and a schedule that has been fairly friendly. Regardless, it’s a very different feel to the year.

Ville Husso is pretty much the goalie equivalent of the “get out of jail free” card in Monopoly. Nashville has some really good chances and he just seems to be in a zone that is way above what we’re used to. Filip Hronek continues to shine with another multi point game. Larkin regains the goal scoring lead and Perron just makes crazy good plays at the half wall.

Reality check: Pittsburgh, Florida and Washington should all have better records than they do. Whether injury or just rough start, these are teams that can turn it on. Detroit still let big chunks of play (half of the first period) slip away as their goalie just calmly kept things going. Larkin’s look pass then shoot goal was a nice one. Hronek just keeps looking more and more confident. The penalty kill came up big. Larkin/Kubalik/Perron looked good together. Seider continues to make D zone plays and add some nice physicality to the game.

For Nashville, Forsberg has a beautiful look on net. So did Josi. Lankinen let in 2 goals on 28 shots but came up with some big saves. It was a good looking game, fun to watch. Almost all the Wings look more comfortable in their roles. Bertuzzi is still not back to the “bulldog mode”. Pickups in Kubalik, Perron and Husso are fantastic. Veleno is making plays. Seider has a way of keeping the puck in the zone when it seems impossible. So many times on the power play in years past the puck would get by the defense and the entries were awful. Much better look this year.

I don’t know what kind of success the Wings will see in division with Tampa Bay, Boston and Toronto. Montreal, not sure what’s going on there. Florida is struggling a bit. Seeing Yzerman grab a goalie off waivers makes me wonder if Ned has been nursing an injury, or if there’s a deal pending. The GM has as good a poker face as any and moves seem to come out of nowhere.

I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving and get some time to reflect and have some peace and time with people you care about. That’s not a bad thing for any of us to add more of into our lives.

First Period Red Wings goals:

Another period where it feels like goaltending bailed out the players while they find their game.

No first period goals.
Score: 0-0
Shots: 7-6 Nashville

Second Period Red Wings goals:
4:09 into 2nd Larkin rips a far side shot while looking like he was going to pass. Perron assists

At 14:16 Hronek ripped a slapshot for a power play goal. Berggren and Copp assist.

Shots on goal: 19-17 Nashville
Score: 2-0 Detroit

Third Period Red Wings goals:

With 21 seconds left Rasmussen got an empty net goal. To his credit he wanted to get the puck to Erne, but was risk vs reward. Erne and Hronek with assists on that empty net.
