Larkin had a grade A snipe to open the scoring!
Hornik keeps adding on to his value.
Husso won that game for Detroit. The Preds had a lot of high danger chances.
I loved Raz's expression after he scored that goal on Duchene!

Great win, Husso has been great so far, I hope he can maintain. Ned had a pretty hot start to the season last year so trying not to get excited early.

Hronek just keeps finding the back of the net, he's a changed player from last season, maybe it's the new coaching and system. He seems to click very well with Maatta and they are a solid pairing right now.

Psysk is out for the season, re-injured himself and is done for a while, hope he recovers and can return for next year.

This was a great grind it out win for the Wings. They need to keep learning how to win these type of games. Nashville is much better than their record shows in terms of talent. Husso bailed them out in the first period and the Wings got better slowly as the game went on. Hronek is having a career year.

Still not sure why Yzerman picked up Magnus Hellberg off waivers. There aren't any injuries that I know of to any of our goalies in the system. I'm guessing just a depth signing unless he wants to unload somebody he thinks insn't working out. I'd say replace Brattstrom in GR (who's been consistently bad since he came to GR).

I think Hellberg is for GR since both Olkinuora and Brattstrom suck so far. I also imagine Yzerman wants him as the 3rd goalie and callup if Husso or Ned get injured instead of those 2 goalies. Problem is he might get picked up on waivers again if they try to send him down. Seems like plenty of teams would like to have him in their system but he never clears waivers.

I wonder if Bert's hand is fully recovered or he is just rusty. He's fumbling the puck a lot, whiffing on passes and shots. I don't think this is the kind of start he was hoping for in a contract year. On the flip side, this might allow Yzerman to re-sign him for a bit cheaper.

But then Helberg would have to be exposed to waivers again....Is he here to push Ned??? That is my guess. Has someone approached Stevie on trading Ned? Buffalo? Anaheim?(No, not for Gibby, but a 3rd)

Wings might have interest in Horvat from the Canucks. He has 16 goals, 22 points in 20 games so far and is the Canucks top center for faceoffs with the most faceoffs taken and a 58% win percentage on draws. I wonder if a package of Rasmussen, a dman prospect (not Edvinsson) and a pick would get it done...as long as the Wings can re-sign him to a decent contract before he becomes a UFA.

That being said, Horvat seems more like a scoring center than a playmaker. I think the Wings could use a playmaking center more than a scoring one but there doesn't seem to be much available for playmaking centers or top 6 center period.

I would hope a little more salary goes back to Van...Your package would be what a re-building Canucks team would want, but if they are just re-tooling, an older player going there would do.
Copp in that package would do it, but I doubt they would want him. How about Bert, Johannson, 2024 1st and then hopefully sign Horvat for 7 x $8.25M and Larkin for 8 x $9M.

Yzerman isn't trading Copp for at least a year or two minimum. He just signed him and it would be a very bad look for him to try and trade him that quick. Copp also has a 10 team no trade list so who knows which teams are on his list.

From what i have been hearing about the Canucks, if they do something, it will be a full rebuild. They would keep Pettersson, Hughes and Demko (although his play this season could change that) and be looking to move everyone else for the right price. I don't think they would want Bertuzzi as any part of a package unless they think they can flip him at the deadline for a better return. Ras is young and cheap enough that they could think he could be part of their rebuild if they believe in his potential.

Borje Salming passed, as I'm sure everyone knows. I watched the game between the Wings & Leafs when Gallant accidently sliced Salming's face, requiring around 200 stiches, and was amazed that we didn't lose Salming then. He was a beast. He was also one of my favorite D-Men....especially when The Perfect Human came to prominence and extolled the virtues of Salming, and how he blazed a trail for Europeans in the NHL. When word got out that he had ALS, I was destroyed as I have a very dear Army friend whose wife had ALS, and sadly passed a few years ago. I watched the HHOF event when Borje was on the ice with Sitler & Sundin; yes, I am a Leafs fan (SOMETIMES....). And yes, my eyes leaked as I watched this amazing man deteriorate before my eyes.

It is devastating to see he's gone. Having played D growing up, I gravitate towards them as favorite players. Vladdy was another whom I was drawn to; sheer power and grace on the ice, monsters in opposing players sleep or under their beds. But gentle warriors for others off the ice. Having served for almost 3 decades in the Army, I am loathe to use "warrior" to describe athletes, it's a personal proclivity having served with true warriors in combat. But these men rose to that level of my respect and admiration. And yes, I cry when I see Vladdy, ANY time I see him. My wife gets misty-eyed as well.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, Borje. You were a warrior, a legend, a gentle giant. And I've lost a role model in your passing.

Just saw a quote from LaLonde that Yzerman told him he claimed Hellberg specifically in case either Husso or Ned goes down to injury. A very smart pickup that costs nothing. But like we all know... if Detroit uses him he could likely be picked up on waivers by another team. We don't want either GR goalie to have to play in Detroit... especially Brattstrom. I might get the chance to see Hellberg play in GR.
