Game Summary:
I think I’ve mentioned Detroit’s penchant for taking a period off several times this year. Many nights, goaltending has bailed them out and let the 40-45 minutes of play be enough to walk away with something. Tonight, Detroit was up 2-1 in the second and lost 8-2.

Some nights, that’s the sport. There were some good plays. Berggren connecting with Veleno and Larkin connecting with Raymond. Good physicality at times. However, the Rangers looked like an Easter Conference finals team playing an outside the bubble team. Once they relax and can score without taking unnecessary risks, the tool box is more than full.

Zibanejad always concerns me. He seems to be in and around the action on many nights. I’m always drawn on a game like this. Skip the video and let the players stew on it, or make them watch it on loop. Many of you know that because of my head injury I have to wear a blind fold sometimes. I wish tonight was one of those times. Maybe some ear plugs and an ocean machine as well.

This Detroit team has moved forward. They will continue to move forward. There are pieces we need to address. While Copp had a good last outing, we were back to a one center team tonight. To many people out of position, rebounds ending up in the back of the net. A 3rd period that will be talked through in therapy.

A road trip may do some good for a battered team. Bertuzzi is close to coming back. Vrana? No clue. This team is still getting to know each other. Some west coast surf and turf may be just what the Dr. Ordered.

First Period Detroit goals:

At 15:40 Zibanejad opened the scoring

At 18:46 Joe Veleno tied things up as Berggren found his first NHL point getting a nice pass to the speedy Veleno as he we straight away toward the Ranger’s net. Maata with the second apple.

Second Period Detroit goals:

At 7:33 in the second Raymond, again, gets a quick shot off. He stopped fast (still moving a little) got a pass from Larkin and just snapped it far corner. 6 goals in the past 7 games for the sophomore and the Captain knows where to find him. It’s been a while since we had someone who could shoot like that. What a find.

At 10:59 Rangers tied it up as Kreider stepped up on the power play.

Score 2-2
Shots 16-11 in NYR favor

Third Period Detroit goals:
No third period goals by Detroit
