It didn’t start too badly for the Habs last night, they were putting up a fight and holding their own up to about the midway point of the 2nd frame. In the first, Washington dominated shots wise 12 to 8, but Samuel Montembeault battled well and kept his team in the game. The one time he was beaten, the goal was called back after an offside challenge.
A nice individual effort by the captain gave the Canadiens the lead early in the second frame when he got the better of Kuemper on a wrap around. Arber Xhekaj got his first NHL point on the play and that was the last thing the Canadiens got to celebrate on the night. The Habs came somewhat undone after Connor Sheary tied things up for Washington and Montembeault just couldn’t settle the team’s collective nerves. He might have played well for the most part last night, but he’s not the calming veteran presence Jake Allen is in net. Final score Washington 3 – Montreal 1.
Jonathan Drouin was playing his first game of the season last night and while it’s hard to have much of an impact on the 4th line, his stat line shows nothing but zeros, he couldn’t even manage a single shot on goal. I’ve been pretty patient with Drouin, but to be honest, my patience is now wearing pretty thin. To me, he’s not in this team’s plans anymore and playing him for showcasing purposes does very little in that sense. The way he’s performing is not raising his stock by any means.
Last night’s game was also further proof that if that first line isn’t producing, there just isn’t very much happening. I believe it might be time to star tinkering with those lines, Monahan has been one of the bright spots for me across the first three games, and I don’t think saddling him with Dach and Dadonov or Hoffman is doing any good, he needs someone who’ll get in front of the net. As for the Slafkovsky-Dvorak-Gallagher line, there’s not much chemistry there and a change could be beneficial.
The Habs have 3 games this week all in Montreal, the Penguins will visit on Monday, the Coyotes on Thursday and the Stars on Saturday. While the match-ups with Pittsburgh and Dallas promise to be tough, the Coyotes are the red hot favorite for the Bedard sweepstake, so I wouldn’t expect too much entertainment from that game #subparforBedard. Ça n’a pas mal débuté pour le CH hier soir, en fait, il s’est bien battu jusqu’au milieu de la deuxième période. En première, Washington a dominé au chapitre des tirs au but, mais Samuel Montembeault s’est bien battu pour garder son équipe dans le match. La seule fois où un lancer a échappé à sa vigilance, le but a été annulé en raison d’un hors-jeu.
Un bel effort individuel par le capitaine a permis aux Canadiens de prendre les devants tôt en 2e période quand il a loge la rondelle derrière Kuemper après avoir contourné le filet. Arber Xhekaj a obtenu son premier point dans la LNH sur le jeu et c’est la dernière chose que le Tricolore a pu célébrer hier soir. L’équipe s’est effondré après le but de Connor Sheary qui créait l’égalité et Montembeault n’a pas su calmer les nerfs collectifs de sa formation. Il a bien joué pour la majeure partie de la rencontre, mais il n’est pas la présence calme et rassurante qu’est Jake Allen devant le filet. Marque finale: Washington 3 – Montréal 1.
Jonathan Drouin jouait son premier match hier soir et bien qu’il soit difficile d’avoir un impact en jouant sur la 4e ligne, ses chiffres de la soirée se résume à zéro, il n’a même pas pu prendre un seul tir au but. Je me suis montrée patiente envers Drouin, mais pour être honnête, ma patience est à toutes fins pratiques épuisée. Pour moi, il ne fait plus partie des plans de l’équipe et l’utiliser pour le mettre en vitrine est contre-productif. En effet, sa façon de performer est loin de faire augmenter sa valeur présentement.
Le match d’hier soir été une autre preuve que quand le premier trio ne produit pas, il ne se passe pas grand-chose à l’attaque. Je crois qu’il serait peut-être temps de commencer à faire des ajustements avec les lignes, Monahan a été l’un des points positifs de ces trois premiers matchs et je ne crois pas que de lui adjoindre Dach et Hoffman ou Dadonov l’aide, il a besoin de quelqu’un qui n’a pas peur d’aller dans le trafic devant le filet. Quant au trio Slafkovsky-Dvorak-Gallagher, la chimie tarde à s’installer et un changement pourrait être bénéfique.
Les Habs ont trois matchs au programme cette semaine, tous à Montréal, les Penguins seront les visiteur lundi, suivi des Coyotes jeudi et des Stars samedi. Les duels contre Pittsburgh et Dallas devraient être des plus divertissants, mais les Coyotes sont parmi les favoris dans la cours pour Conor Bedard, alors mes attentes pour ce match ne sont pas très élevées… Finalement, n’oubliez pas de visionner l’épisode de cette semaine de
