While San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is suspended to start the year, he’s eligible to return at the end of November. As of now, it looks like the team has yet to set a plan in place for what to do with him, but one thing they won’t be able to do is void his contract.

This report comes from TSN’s Chris Johnston. It means Kane’s $7 million cap hit may not be coming off the books anytime soon and the Sharks need to make a decision on what to do with the forward, once he’s eligible to return.

Kane has been in the news for much of the offseason and it’s been widely reported that some of his teammates did not want him to return. However, with a trade likely impossible to pull off, this leaves the Sharks with the option to waive him and bury the contract in the minors as possibly the best option for the year, though they wouldn't receive much cap relief.
