The Carolina Hurricanes have now dropped three of their last four games, losing to the Anaheim Ducks last night. Here’s the game recap.

Adam Henrique put the Ducks ahead early when he got the puck all alone on the left side of the ice and froze Mrazek with a well-placed shot. Brett Pesce was completely out of position on this one and it cost the Hurricanes. Then about 10 minutes later, Troy Terry tipped home a Cam Fowler point shot to put the Ducks up 2-0.

Just as the second period started, Jakob Silfverberg found himself on a rush down the wing and though Mrazek stopped the initial shot, the rebound squeaked through him and Silfverberg was able to tap it home.

A bit later, Petr Mrazek stopped an initial shot from Rickard Rakell but Carter Rowney put the rebound in after Jake Gardiner couldn’t get to the rebound to make it a 4-0 game.

That was it for Petr Mrazek, who allowed four goals on 13 shots and in came James Reimer. The Hurricanes came alive a bit after that, with Erik Haula tipping home a point Teuvo Tervainen shot from the point and then Haydn Fleury ripped a shot by Ryan Miller but that’s as far as any comeback would come.

The key factor here was simply that the Hurricanes only really started playing about halfway through the game. Carolina actually ended up outshooting the Ducks 24-20 and holding Anaheim to just three shots in the third period.

Brett Pesce had a rough game. He was on the ice for Carolina’s first three goals and each had at least something to do with him being in the wrong spot.

Petr Mrazek needed to have that third one as well. It was a good chance but that’s a shot that shouldn’t have gotten through him to begin with.


The Hurricanes now have a long break, with their next game coming on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
