The Carolina Hurricanes remain undefeated after a 6-3 win in Florida last night. Here's the game recap.

Jordan Staal opened the scoring for Carolina about seven minutes into the game. Jake Gardiner took a slapshot from the point which was redirected by Brock McGinn and popped out right to Staal, who put it five-hold on Sergei Bobrovsky.

Teuvo Teravainen increased the lead to 2-0, tipping down a Haydn Fleury point shot. It was reviewed but stood. Carolina continued to pile on in an explosive first period, with Andrei Svechnikov being stopped on a breakaway but then throwing the puck back to the slot where Dougie Hamilton, who had jumped into the rush, made no mistake. That wasn’t it either.

Though Sebastian Aho had a couple great chances but was stopped by Bobrovsky, Ryan Dzingel was able to tap-in a power play goal off a pass from Teravainen, leaving the Panthers stunned and my fantasy hockey team (which includes Bobrovsky) in shambles.

Sam Montembault came in after that but didn’t do much better in the second period. He stopped the original Martin Necas shot but the rebound popped back to Dzingel, who scored his second of the game.

Florida got one back when Reimer stopped an initial from Aleksander Barkov shot but after some frantic movement on Reimer's part, the puck got back to Mackenzie Weegar who put the Panthers on the board. While, sure, Reimer made the initial save, the control on this puck was extremely strange, as the puck somehow ramped up off his stick and almost over him from the Barkov shot. He made up for it though with a few good saves off Aaron Ekblad, then an excellent glove save on a cross-ice pass to Weegar who was in good range. Mike Hoffman and Evgeni Dadonov got some great chances off the rush as well but Reimer held strong.

In the third period, Keith Yandle did get one by Reimer, teeing up a shot on the power play from the top of the circle that found its way in. Florida got another power play late in the third where Evgeni Dadonov was set up right in the slot and put a shot past Reimer who had no chance. Sebastian Aho scored an empty net goal before the Panthers were able to mount a comeback.

Between the second and third periods, the Panthers outshot the Hurricanes 40-21, including 18-5 in the third period. All I’m saying is, who said to give Reimer a chance?

It’s far too early to actually say that Reimer is going to have a great year but he’s certainly started off with a promising first two games. He was sturdy all game and came up big in the last few minutes to halt any sort of comeback from the Panthers.

The important thing is the Carolina Hurricanes are now 4-0.

ON A SIDE NOTE: THE CAROLINA HURRICANES HAVE RECALLED JULIEN GAUTHIER.

The Hurricanes’ next game comes Friday when they host the New York Islanders.
