After another insanely long summer, there will be action again tomorrow at the Complexe Sportif Bell in Brossard as the team's rookies will be put through their paces by the Rocket coaching staff (Joël Bouchard, Alex Burrows, Daniel Jacob and Mario Marciano). Things kick off tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM and afterwards both coaches and players will be available to the media which means that come tomorrow night, there should finally be some real hockey news on Sports 30 and the likes.
It was already something to long on Twitter last night and see that the boys were back in town thanks to KK's Instagram account (Poehling, KK, Suzuki and Brook):
The rookies will make their way to Belleville for the rookie tournament after the practice on Friday which is scheduled for 10.00 AM. They will then play two games in Belleville against the baby Sens at 7.00 PM Saturday and the baby Jets at 7.00 PM on Sunday. I've yet to find out if those games will be broadcasted anywhere but I'm hoping they will be, like last season. Although since the tournament was in Laval, RDS was on hand to broadcast it, doubt they will make their way to Belleville. That being said, this will not be NHL caliber hockey yet, I mean last season I remember watching the first game and thinking that KK wasn't NHL ready... Some of you might recall that he looked like the ice was too small for him and the players were on him way too quickly... Thankfully though, he did adapt quickly but that can serve as a cautionary tale, don't be too quick to form your opinion, those youngsters can improve in a flash! The rookies will then play a final game on Tuesday against a team formed of university players.
Elsewhere in Habsland, it was announced today that Brian Gionta, the 28th captain in the franchise's history will be inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame (alongside Gary Bettman of all people). It's a well deserved honour for Gio, shame he never managed to lift Lord Stanley's mug in Montreal though, his sole conquest coming when he line-up with Martin Brodeur and the Devils.
