The only time I got all charged up for a draft we traded all our picks for the next 20 years for Pronger. Ruined the draft party. But thanks for the insights, Bill. Sigh. |

Hey Bill,
Do you have a comparable for Hertl and can he play wing? He looked good at the world juniors, much better than his higher ranked teammate in Faksa. Also what do you think of Zemgus Girgensons? Reading about him makes him sound like a future Rod Brind'amore. He has been slipping a bit due to the broken jaw even though I doubt he will be there at 20. |

Is there any nice site online where you could find old pre-draft scouting reports... for some amusing reading? |

Two things Bill.
Where do you see Schultz signing? Any chance Souray doesn't resign with Dallas? He rejected 1 yr $3m yesterday. - stveshdy
Although I don't think Schultz is the right fit there -- despite his friendships -- I think he'll end up on the Rangers. If not there, Toronto.
I was shocked by the Souray report, unless he values a two-year contract above the money.

I was surprised at the report also. Seems like a fair deal but maybe he is holding out for a two year deal. You think Dallas will offer him that or move on? |

How about trade JVR for Gardiner and sign Schultz? Problems solved. |

Who wants those two stiffs? Nash has never had an 80 point season and his cap hit stinks. Weber is a chump whos never taken his team to the Western Finals and only looks good because of Suter. Pass. Frauds.

Agree. Love the upside but there are probably safer picks. |

It's not that, some think had he not gotten hurt he might have cracked the top 10 & still could crack the top 15 |

Franson + 35th overall for PHL 20th overall? Tom Wilson should be available at 20 |

Agreed. No reason to trade for Nash. Flyers offense was pretty good last year. Number two in scoring. Some players probably won't do as well such as Hartnell, Simmonds, Talbot and possbily Read. JvR will obviously be a help next year.
I'm more concerned with GAA. Can't expect to go far into the playoffs if your in the bottom 10. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 8 Draft Possibilities, Today in Flyers History - bmeltzer
Hey Bill,
With the dearth of quality depth in net, do you think the Flyers would be interested in recently waived Alexander Salak or going back to Joacim Eriksson? Even if they picked one of the top goalies of this draft class, that player will be about 4-6 years away from contributing at the earliest. Salak is as ready as he'll ever be (had a solid training camp w/ Chicago last summer), and Eriksson isn't too far off from being NHL-ready. |

IMo the best thing for this team to do is get these forwards in sync with the defensemen I.E play a better defensive game. It's not Lavy's system per say, Defense wasn't a problem in 2010 until we got to the finals against an explosive attack. Let this team gel, and get some cohesion and these things will happen. The only FA defensemen really piquing my interest is Garrison, Suter is gonna command too much money. If we don't get Garrison or Suter for sake of Argument I have no problem going into next year with Timmonen, Coburn, Carle, Mezaros, Grossmann, Lilja/Bourdon-Gus. Every single year someone becomes available by the deadline, if those guys arent getting it done then Homer can go lock stock and barrel at the deadline. In the meantime there's plenty of firepower upfront, if anything I'd be a lil enticed by parise because he brings that two-play that is needed from our forwards. Again tho, let some of these kids age, Schenn/Simmonds will get better, Jvr provided he's healthy might even develop a more responsible defensive side.
Finally yes, Lavy can tweak his system so that the forwards aren't standing at the redline waiting for a breakout pass while the other team's forecheck is smothering our D. Just gotta get more situational and less cookie cutter mentality, play what's there and not expect to be hard charging through the neutral zone all the time. |

I wouldn't be opposed. Hopefully Hovinen does well this season with the Phantoms. I am a bit concerned about the hip issues.

I would have no problems if this is the course the Flyers choose to take. Homer is going to add some pieces b/c no team ever stays exactly the same. I'm fine with upgrading the 3rd pairing and finding a 4th line center who can win draws and play on special teams. |
