Wow. Short term it doesn't make any sense. Long term, they hope that Ramo, Berra, Ortio will be a full time starter, okay I get that. But still, doesn't make much sense right now. |

He would make one good save a game and be sub-par for the other 55:55 of game time. I remember McDonald was told at the end of last season he would be given a chance to be our number 1. He showed up in ok shape and didn't steal even one game. Next goalie, please.

MacDonald is not better than Dubnyk and is the same goalie as Lababara or Backman. The only team who could use a stop gap is the Hurricanes. To look at him as a saviour for edmonton is sad. Friedman's out to lunch on this one. - therealagent
I think Mac is better than Labarbara. Whether Bachman is going to be better or not is still undetermined. |

"Spot on" in which way? Like "don't win games at all"? |

I've watched far more than most of you. There is a reason he has started most games for the Flames this year. |

Please elaborate. Name one game he stole. Im too lazy to find the quote but I remember management saying he could have been in better shape to start the season. My assessment is fair. He'd make one nice save and the Sun would write all about it. Not to mention how many leads he blew. Not his fault, for the most part, but there's something to be said for goalies with the ability to keep their team in the game when momentum changes.
State your views and maybe I'll understand why you don't like my assessment. You just sound condescending otherwise. |

Management said they'd give him a legitimate shot at #1 in the end-of-year meetings last season. There's why. Its far far down the list in the "On Demand" section of the Fan960's website.
Also Feaster would probably get axed for bringing in two green goalies to start the season if it didnt work out. He's covering his own ass letting a veteran start the season. Kept the Calgary Sun writers at bay. |

He's been better than Ramo. Started more, has equal sv%, better GAA and more wins. He has not been the reason for any losses. He's been solid. Has not let in any stinkers. More so than Ramo. He was a big part of the hot start. He will be claimed. Running with Ramo and Berra will be a mistake. |

Ramo has better skills & better poise with a higher ceiling to be a #1. Joey is decent but he is a career backup .900save % goalie who cant seem to get a handle on his too many rebounds weakness. Yes he has looked good some games. If you don't have young almost ready NHL goalies, he makes for a perfect backup, which would definitely be the case in Edmonton. Ramo & Berra make sense for this year with the Flames & having Brossoit & Ortio in Abbey is a no brainer, they both need AHL starts & they are both trying to establish themselves on the pro level. |

I'm still waiting to see these so called better skills that Ramo has. He sure as hell hasn't shown them so far. |

Ramo hasn't let in stinkers like the 2 in the 3rd period last night. Agree, Ramo isn't the be all either, but we don't know what we have with him, Macdonald is a known quantity. We also want to see what we have in Berra too, sorry, no room for Joey Tomatoe. |

Most teams have two goalies better than MacDonald. Neither Flames goalie has been much to get positive about. Berra played well with the Heat so he's earned his chance at the NHL. Ideally MacDonald will play with the Heat and will get called up if there is an injury. |

I agree that he's not the guy and anyone who thought he was is not all there. But nobody can argue he himself stole a couple games for us. For sure the Habs game. |

No doubt he actually probably cost us Barkov or Seth. He came in Calgary, in a bad situation & played pretty friggin decent during a dire situation the Flames hadn't been in for a long long time because Kipper rarely got injured. I think there are a lot of reasons why Burke was brought in. Feaster is doing a lot of good things, but he's made some real stupid decisions. Giving Babchuk a 2 year 5.0mill deal & then having a coach who healthy scratched him most nights, the ROR offer sheet, the stupid 2 year contract he gave Sarich when he was already a healthy scratch on many nights. He traded for Ramo (the best goalie not in the NHL) & then our biggest trade asset in JBO, a big part of the return was a goalie. So he signs a veteran career backup goalie so there is no room for his 2 prize acquisitions. Follow the domino, that then sets back your best 2 goalie prospects in Ortio & Brossoit. Both players coming in ready to start their pro careers & need as many AHL starts as possible. Suddenly, that Joey Mac signing means Berra takes up these kids AHL starts & one of them has to play in Alaska. Now I get it, who wants to start the year with 2 unproven goalies? Most teams, that would be a career ending decision but the Flames just did a fire sale on its Vets & core & has declared a full rebuild. This season has a get out of jail free card attached to it.
I'm not bashing Feaster, I love what he has done on things & how he's built the new management team. The drafting has been very refreshing & getting excited about young future players has been something I have wanted for years. But it's little stupid decisions that tells me sometimes he loses sight of where the ship is heading. JMO. Personally, nothing against Joey Mac, super guy & not a bad career backup goalie, but if he clears waivers, the Flames should consider buying him out before sending him to Abbey. Ortio & Brossoit should be manning the nets down there & getting their pro careers started properly. |
