Hope you are right, but I've been jerked off too many times in the last few months by a possible deal.
I'll believe it when I see it.

The Oilers will be an interesting team to watch. Their top two lines are, at least on paper, pretty scary. Their defense and goaltending as a combo is maybe the worst in the league. There's just too many kids and no toughness.
I predict we will see Edmonton breakdown and trade one of their 4 core forwards for a defenceman, maybe not right away, but eventually. You can only be terrible for so long. To me, Luongo would be a solid option for the Oilers and I wonder if there is a deal where the Oilers would get Corrado and Shroeder, Luongo and Alberts for a package built around Yakopov. |

So, to put it in writing this is what you want:
Hall-Hopkins-Eberle
Hemsky-Gagner-Yakupov
Smyth-Petrell-Jones
Paajarvi-Lander-Hartikainen
Hordichuk
Whitney-NSchultz
Smid-Petry
Marincin-JSchultz
Potter
Dubnyk
Danis
Well, the bright side of that is we'll pick Barkov or Monahan. Hello 12-14 in the West. |

ick. an okay defense prospect, a smaller forward who isn't lighting up the AHL, A pretty good goalie who's getting old and has a really long contract and Andrew AHLberts.
for anyone who asks, i am new here. |

12th is possible. Won't be as bad as 14th though. I'd say 10th is more likely. |

When you put it like that, it doesnt sound so good does it? I don't know I'm just spitballing. Alberts isnt great but he gives them toughness they lack. Coraddo is probably a better than decent prospect. You are right though, its not a great trade. Maybe they could get Luongo without trading any of their best guys and then move Yakupov for something more exciting. |

Great idea! Trade a package built around a potential star scoring winger that will help fill a hole in our line-up as soon as this coming season for a bunch of things we don't need. We have more than enough D prospects (a few better than Corrado), MORE than enough small, offensive-minded forwards with little penchant for defense or faceoffs, more than enough #6-7 defensemen, and we don't want Luongo as we're all prepared to give Dubnyk a shot at being a starter.
I mean, I appreciate the effort, but couldn't you have taken a little more time to think about that from our perspective? |

For those of you who mentioned how full of crap I am with respect to my previous blog, details from Bob McKenzie and others coming out late tonight about where CBA stands:
- No information on whether or not my 56 game schedule information is correct or wrong. I was wrong on December 15th start date; 26th is what is being reported now. I still believe 56 is correct, as it fits with the conference situation (each team within a conference will play each other four times).
- I was so-so on "make whole". NHL has increased size of offer, but it's still about half of what players want. Won't likely be 100% face value of current contracts. Escrow will be used and 100% is still possible, but not likely. The "make whole" clause, apparently, is the main topic of negotiation at this point.
- Seven year max contracts is sorta correct. UFA's signing with new teams will be 5 years max. Players re-signing with their current team will be seven years.
- Length of new CBA will be eight years, as I said. However, it looks like the owners want an additional 2 years as an option, which could bring it to 10 years.
- UFA status was correct. Age 27.
- Still no confirmation either way if there will be an Amnesty or buyout period at the start of the new CBA.
- Stuff I didn't touch on: Entry-level deals will remain three-years. |

That's just opening the door for sign and trades like the NBA, and tons of moving players rights before July 1. |

so we'd be erasing our 3rd and 4th line centers, along with a huge portion of the little vet presence we have and replacing them with a guy who isnt as good as either or a natural center?? AND another kid whos been struggling for the most part in the farm???
AND we're dealing one of the few guys we have that actually brings some sandpaper and toughness to an already small and fairly soft team?...
thank god ur not the gm.

another small winger that's not destroying the A. a decent but lesser prospect than some of the D guys we already have in the system. another 6th dman plug. AND get rid of the goalie thats about to finally get a shot whos signed at a decent price/term, for a good goalie with a retardedly long contract before we've resigned our all of our core??
all for a possible superstar that actually fills a hole..??
wow. just wow
edit; i just read that 2 other people basically posted this exactly. well thank god. it's just a horribly clueless trade.
i figure we'll need about 3 more of these posts just to drive home the stupidity of the proposed deal. |

that would've been too difficult.
1. it wouldve required him to actually have a clue about the oilers
2. he wouldnt've got the chance to write his lame little dig; "you cant be terrible forever". which was really the whole point of his post from the beginning. |

If you think Horcoff and Belanger bring sandpaper and toughness, you watch a different Oilers team than I do. |

I think that is pretty close value but I don't see Phoenix giving up there top two dmen for someone who hasn't played ( I think he ll be a superstar personally) considering they won't have any significant d men after that and they are not rebuilding at the moment so I don't see them doing it, doesn't make sense from their side. |

no way in hell pho moves both those guys. i doubt they value yakupov alone much more than OEK. if at all.
so basically; yandle and a first for jones and a 2nd!!?? sign me up!!
hate to lose yakupov. but thats a deal you cant pass up!! it's a ton coming our way,
go from one of the worst defences in the league to one of the best overnight. |

even though i think it's more lopsided in edm's favour than u do, i agree with the bolded.
maybe just oek for yakupov (plus some throw ins either side) but the whole deal is abit overkill both ways.
but then 1 for 1 im not sure im willing to give away what could be such a dynamic player for us without feeling like we slam dunk won the deal.
Even though OEK is gonna be a dominant two way minute eater for years and id LOVE to have him.
the whole deal was just so much coming our way. plus a first! i felt forced to say yes!!
losing jones actually does hurt. we have so few physical, true energy guys etc.
we win the trade, but at a huge cost. i suppose replacing jones wouldnt be too difficult...
\both teams would be gutting their strongest parts.
wow, actual hockey talk. that was fun |
