Jay Feaster has his eyes set on another big name.

This time it's a member of the Stanley Cup winning team Feaster assembled in 2004.

The Calgary Flames are interested in Vincent Lecavalier, who was recently bought out, and will meet with Lecavalier and his representatives in New Jersey tomorrow, according to Elliotte Friedman of CBC.

Lecavalier, 33, is still a productive player and is certainly capable of producing in a top-6 role.

It's no secret that the Flames want to upgrade at the center position and even if Lecavalier is a short-term fix, he's certainly an upgrade; which is what Feaster wants.

With Lecavalier being bought out, the notion from many fans is that he's no longer a very good player. The fact is that he still is a very good player. He's not the star he once was, but he's still quite capable of producing offensively.

Lecavalier is coming off a season where he scored 10 times and recorded 32 points in 39 games played. He's been pretty impressive over the last three seasons, as well, as in his last 168 regular season games, he has 57 goals and 135 points.

Given the Flames appear to be in a rebuilding stage, I'm not sure Lecavalier is a fit for them. That said, Feaster wants him on the team and is going to do everything he can to get him in Calgary.

Even if he's not a perfect fit for what they're trying to do, he still is a good player and could serve as a good mentor to some of the younger players on the team like Mikael Backlund.

I'm not condoning Feaster going after Lecavalier, but there are some benefits to having on the team should he decide to sign in Calgary.

My quick .02 cents is that he will sign elsewhere, though, as there are quite a few playoff caliber teams like Detroit who are interested. Detroit might not pony up as much cash for Lecavalier as Calgary would, but they'd provide a much better chance to win. Quite a few other teams would as well.

It's Lecavalier's decision as to which he prefers more.

I'll be running an all day draft blog tomorrow. It will start before the draft and I'll be updating it regularly until the draft is over with all of the Flames selections, trades, etc.

It should be a fun day so stick around and check back often. Be sure to follow me on Twitter (link above) as well.

I examine who the Flames should select 6th overall.

Brendan Ross and myself rank the top-60 prospects and more in TheHockeyGuys 2013 NHL Draft Guide.
