Trade Rumor That Makes No Wild Sense

Charlie Coyle's name surfaced again recently in trade rumors involving the Montreal Canadiens. The names being bandied about from the Montreal side are Tomas Plekanec, Andrew Shaw, and Phillip Danault.

Coyle (25) is just now coming into his own as a power forward in this league combined with his cap friendly $3.2 million/year that has 3 years left.

Plekanec (34) is on the downside of his career seeing his production drop significantly from his 26 goals and 60 points in 2014-15 to 18 and 54 in 2015-16, to 10 and 34 this past season. Combine that with a $6 million cap hit for 2017-18 and a pending UFA at season's end, this makes no Wild sense.

Shaw (26) is locked up at $3.9 million for the next five seasons and does have Stanley Cup rings with the Blackhawks, but at this point makes little sense to the Wild to send a goal scorer for a role player.

Danault (24) a former first round draft pick like Coyle who appears to be hitting his stride given his first real taste of a full NHL season last year with Montreal, netting 13 goals and 40 points in 82 games. Danault makes just under a million a year and is due to become an RFA on July 1st.

So we will see how things play out, but I don't see any fit here with the Canadiens and Wild as trade partners.
