Pietrangelo Signs Seven Year Deal; Gagne Still Hunting for a Team

The St. Louis Blues have avoided a long and drawn out contract impasse with restricted free agent defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, signing the 23 year old defenseman to a seven year deal for $45.5 Million($6.5 Million per season)

*******

Earlier this week, at the time they thought they had an agreement with Dan Cleary, the Flyers informed unrestricted free agent winger Simon Gagne that he would not receive a contract or a tryout invite. That has not, and will not, change even after Cleary elected to sign in Detroit.

However, that does not mean Gagne will be without an NHL team this season. Although it has been reported that Montreal is not interested in him right now, the operative part of that information is the final two words. That situation could change. Additionally, I am hearing there are at least two other teams who have interest in the former All-Star winger, possibly as a tryout or on a one-year contract.

As long as he can stay healthy, Gagne is still a player who can help on a team's third line as a strong two-way player even if he isn't the scoring threat he used to be.
