The Calgary Flames have been pretty active this summer in terms of bringing in new faces as well as retaining some of their own.

While Jay Feaster has likely checked most items off his off-season checklist, there is still one big thing left to do. That is re-signing 23-year-old defenseman T.J. Brodie.

The question is, how much is he worth?

That's a tough question to get an exact answer for because every player and their situation is different. That said, using some queries I've come up with a list of comparable players in terms of production, age, etc.

In order to gauge how much Brodie is worth and approximately how much he'll earn in his next contract, the best thing to do is look at said comparables.

With that said, here is a chart I made of comparable players to Brodie in terms of age, production and what they're making on their current contracts.

Note: This query was sorted by defenseman with 100-140 games played and 20-45 points in their first 2-3 seasons in the NHL. The * beside Justin Faulk and Adam Larsson means they're still on their entry level contracts.

As you'll notice, two of the better comparables for Brodie in Faulk and Larsson are still on entry level deals so you can't really use them as a comparison for Brodie's next contract.

Arguably the best comparable when looking at age, production and other variables is Roman Josi. Josi just signed a seven-year, $28 million deal that will carry an annual cap hit of $4 million per season. If Brodie were to sign a long-term deal with the Flames, it would likely look very similar to Josi's. That said, Feaster has been adamant about re-signing Brodie on a short-term deal so I wouldn't expect that.

Slava Voynov's production is better than Brodie's by a pretty significant margin and he's coming off a coupe great playoff runs so when you factor in that with his long-term contract, it's tough to compare the two.

That leaves San Jose Sharks defenseman Jason Demers. Demers has shown some nice flashes over his first few seasons in the NHL. He can skate and put up some points, however, he is playing with much better players and that should be noted.

Demers signed a one-year 'prove it' contract worth $1.5 million this off-season.

Most players comparable to Brodie are either on their ELC's or signed long-term contracts and given that's likely not an option for the Flames, it's tough to predict what he'll earn on his next contract.

Usually during short-term contracts with players like Brodie they'll earn less per season than if they signed long-term, and I'm inclined this scenario won't be any different.

When you factor in usage, age, production and the kind of contract Feaster wants to sign Brodie to, I think he'll earn between $2-2.5 million per season on a 2-3 year deal.

It'll be interesting to see if that is indeed the case.
