Update: Flames select Tim Harrison, Rushan Rafikov and John Gilmour. The Flames draft is complete.

6th overall - C Sean Monahan (Ottawa - OHL)
22nd overall - LW Emile Poirier (Gatineau - QMJHL)
28th overall - LW Morgan Klimchuk (Regina - WHL)
67th overall - D Keegan Kanzig (Victoria - WHL)
135th overall - D Eric Roy (Brandon - WHL)
157th overall - F Tim Harrison
187th overall - D Rushan Rafikov
198th overall - D John Gilmour

Update (8:48): Flames select D Eric Roy of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Roy is a 6'3" defenseman who can quarterback a power play. He has a good shot as well. Roy was my 57th ranked player so I think the Flames did well getting Roy here.

Update (7:33): Flames select D Keegan Kanzig. Kanzig is a 6'7 defenseman out of the WHL. 0 goals, 7 assists, 159PIMs. Safe to say there isn't much upside in his game. Maybe could be a 3rd pairing guy who can drop the mitts.

Update (5:51): The Flames select left winger Morgan Klimchuk with the 28th overall pick. He scored 36 goals and was over a point per game this year. He's a solid playmaker as well.

He was my 32nd ranked player.

Update (5:20): The Calgary Flames select Emile Poirier with the 22nd overall pick.

Poirier is a goal scoring power forward who can skate. He's a talented guy but with Hunter Shinkaruk still on the board, I don't get this pick at all.

Update (4:17 ET): With Cory Schneider being traded to the Devils, the Flames will have to look elsewhere for an upgrade in goal.

The Flames were one of the four finalists for Schneider's services, according to Pierre Lebrun.

With the 6th overall pick, the Calgary Flames elected to go with Sean Monahan of the Ottawa 67's.

Monahan is my 5th ranked forward and 6th ranked player.

He's a strong two-way player who sees the ice exceptionally well. He can play in all situations and despite playing on a poor team against ridiculously tough competition, he put up some impressive point totals.

Monahan had 31 goals and added 47 assists for 78 points in 56 games. His production tailed off a bit at the end of the season but there were rumors he was playing injured. The fact he didn't have many quality players around him, especially after the 67's traded Cody Ceci, didn't help.

My in-depth scouting report on Monahan

In short, I like the pick.

I'll be updating this all throughout the day so check back regularly.
