Pred Notes

- Today is the final day to vote in the NHL13 cover contest. Pekka Rinne and Claude Giroux are in a tight contest… votes will be counted until 10:59:59pm Central time.

- Word broke over the weekend that Predator defense prospect Teemu Laakso has signed in the KHL, drawing a rather large “meh” from Pred Nation.

- The other interesting KHL news is that Sergei Federov, GM of CSKA in the KHL is trying to sign Alexander Radulov… cue the bar and curfew jokes… Drinks may be on Rads however, if the money being tossed around is any indication of what the KHL is willing to pay for him.

- The news of talks between Ryan Suter, his agent and David Poile had Pred Nation buzzing at the end of last week. Interesting how blunt the comments were about getting this done quickly.

- Haven’t seen this widely mentioned, but Pred Nation had the honor of witnessing Nicklas Lidstrom’s last NHL game.

Stanley Cup Final Notes

- Two overtime games… two road wins… 2-0 lead for the Kings. New Jersey has to be beside itself trying to figure out what is going wrong. Given the play, this series should at least be tied…

- Don’t get me wrong, Martin Brodeaur’s play has been great… Jonathan Quick has simply been better.

- If history repeats, LA will drop one at Staples Center and win it in New Jersey.

- Simon Gagne is said to be in the lineup tonight for the Kings, his first game in five months. If he plays, and the Kings win the Cup, his name will be on it.

- Tonight marks the first game New Jersey has had to get on a plane for since knocking out Florida.

Random NHL Notes

- Tim Thomas taking a “furlough?” Call it what it is… retirement.

- The4 salary cap has been set at 70.3 million next season… this is a tentative number depending on the outcome of CBA negotiations.

- The rights to Tomas Vokoun got traded to Pittsburgh early today and Pens GM Ray Shero signed the veteran netminder to a two year contract. Nice pickup for the Pens.

- John Branch in the New York Times has a follow up article describing Derek Boogaard’s prescription drug use prior to his death. It is a disturbing account, here's the link.

- Lots of KHL news as Columbus backup netminder Curtis Sanford has signed with Lokomotiv and Chicago defenseman Sami Lepisto has also signed with the KHL team.
