ZM meeting the fans. This organization just pushes the scrubs down peoples throat. Comical how archaic this organization operates.

Would anyone have believed the Flyers top 6 will be by choice will have 5 of the following from last year: Sanheim, Provorov, Risto, Braun, Seeler, KC.

What a great job this GM has done.

Bill who was the main driver in sending York down in your opinion, the GM or the coach?

The kids are going to play. Now we know he didn't necessarily mean for the Flyers.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this franchise holds back it's young players like no other.

Wonder if Sanheim signs an extension. 3 Dmen already making over 5 million per yr. I'm not sure I see a 4th Dman making that much. Don't get me wrong I believe Sanheim is a priority signing. The Risto and DeAngelo signings were unnecessary with a Sanheim extension needed. Howver, here we are.

Sanheim should 100% be moved and not extended. We already have a bunch of mediocre players signed long term, no need for another even though he is better than most of them. He’s one of the few players we can get a serious return for, the team will be far out of the playoff race by the deadline, move him then. We won’t be competing for at least 5 years. Our first in 23, floridas, and another from Sanheim would be a good way to jump start this rebuild.

Fair enough, do you see a Coburn to TB type deal completed for Sanheim?

I really liked this pick when they made it (except for passing on Caufield). This kid did everything right at all levels before getting drafted. Captained the U.S. national team, a highly successful team.
But, one thing that always concerned me was his size/strength. Yes, physicality is not his game, but a certain amount of it is needed on occasion. NHL forwards know how to lean on undersized defensemen to get position and overpower them. He has to find a way to solve this challenge. Otherwise, Caufield was the better choice. Size is not as much of an issue for forwards because they can use their speed to get open or create space (Barzal). They can use positioning to be at the right place at the right time for plays by the net. (e.g. Caufield is like Danny Briere)

Absolutely. He’s also a guy that a team will be happy to extend immediately, Dman in his prime, it won’t be just a rental situation. You may have meant that by the Coburn comment, I just remember we got a first and Gudas? Not sure if he extended or was under contract.

Does it have to be Sanheim ? Why can't they move one of the other 5 million $ d
men ? Sanheim is starting to look like a player who might be able to use his ability to skate to facilitate break out passes, close gaps and make a bigger contribution offensively. Did he develop late ? Yes. But I'm not sure he should be the one sent packing.

I can’t imagine anyone wants Risto, I’m not opposed to Provy but Sanheim is expiring contract and is easier to fit in at the deadline. He’s a good player, the team sucks tho and is going nowhere fast. We need to recoup picks. Having 3 in this upcoming draft would be huge.

Pretty sure that was the compensation as well. The draft pick turned into Konency, I believe. I actually believe Fletcher has not done a bad job drafting. No stars, but decent depth guys who can eventually play in the NHL. Now, team building absolutely horrible as evidenced by his signing of DeAngelo and trade/ re signing of Risto. I do believe Sanheim is better then those two, but where the franchise currently is, Sanheim does represent a huge chip for the future.

This season, I am all in with the team being terrible. All the pieces are in place to bottom out. Capped out, not a young roster, and no goalie depth. This upcoming draft is worth this year of pain.

I’m hoping this year goes so bad that Fletcher will no longer be here for the upcoming draft. The goalie depth this season is laughable. I don’t think there’s a chance this team finishes outside the bottom 5 in the league.

The Flyers essentially believe that one of this team’s biggest issues over the past few seasons — even beyond the distinct absence of high-end talent — has been a lack of competitiveness, a lack of accountability and a lack of care. And understanding this assessment goes a long way toward understanding their just-completed offseason. It explains the choice of Tortorella, a coach who screams accountability both figuratively and literally. The signing of Nicolas Deslauriers — ridiculous four-year term and all — fits right in as well; he may be a statistical five-on-five liability, but he’s certainly not lacking for physicality and a team-first attitude. Even the trade (and signing) of Tony DeAngelo makes more sense through this lens. For all his off-ice controversies, there’s a reason why old-school hockey men tend to like him more than they usually appreciate offensive defensemen — he’s notably hyper-competitive and fiery both on and off the ice.

Thought this was a interesting part Charlie's article today. He is starting to connect the dots.

Are you talking 3 1st round picks? Let's start with trying to get to 2 picks as the Flyers currently only have one 1st and then don't pick until the end of the 3rd round having traded their own (probably) high 2nd and high 3rd in the Risto and TDA trades.

Was Florida pick 2024? Or did we already use it? Giroux return came with a first.

Answers may have been provided, but are they the right ones ? Do you have any experience as a coach or GM ? (I do)
People on this site are just flailing with ideas, just to throw them out there. One of the reasons why this team is struggling, is getting rid of the wrong players over recent years. Just because Risto was the wrong signing, doesn't mean you get rid of someone who is showing improvement. I used to be a huge Provy fan, but is he continuing to grow? He has trade value for sure.

This is a discussion board. People should avoid saying their posts are the final word, as it is all opinion.

2024 is the first.

Third round pick this year.

I don’t think we have a second round pick this year.

I would disagree that Sanheim is a mediocre player. The issue is that the players who need to go and shouldn't be here. Can't be moved. So what do you do? There is certainly merit to moving him but this is a decision that should've been already made and planned for.

I don' t fault the prospects for their lack of development in this organization. Lappy has failed up in this organization like no other. York might not have been good this preseason. Fair criticism. However, I don t agree with him being sent down. Risto and DeAngelo were guaranteed spots due to assets used to acquire. Was there accountability with those 2 spots? I stand by my original post in regards to Fletcher's draft record. Don't get me wrong, I want Fletcher gone by Christmas.
