So funny how the Laffs seem to trip over themselves every year come playoff time! Leaf nation must be besides themselves this morning!! I have some contacts up in that area and the Leafs are akin to the Eagles around here +3 as far as fandom goes. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of fans! |

To be fair...the Eagles have at least won it all once.

so wait now the Leafs will need a shake up to their core to take the next step? Shocking. Only 1 team wins the cup.
Let's say the final 4 will be Tampa, Boston, AVs and Jets, kicking out Vegas, Carolina, Habs and Isles. Which teams will need a change for next season?
Vegas with their cap and not winning, yup they will. Isles, yeah they would have hit their ceiling and need something to take another step, while their 4th line very good they miss that middle six talent. Canes, maybe. ETC, ETC, if you don't win you need to make some changes due to personnel or CAP. Some more than others but there should be a whole lot of options out there. I would have rather missed this season, get a better pick and the time to really look at what steps to take.
Said it before and I will say it again, this is the make it or break season for CF. He needs to move CAP and bring in the parts needed for the next step. |

Personally I would be happy if the organization came up with any kind of plan on how they want the team to be built. The only identity I can come up with for the Flyers is maybe a "team with depth". I guess a team of inconsistent depth.

@wcorvette
Only 1 team wins but Toronto has not been past the 1st round since 2004. They have arguably one of the top rosters in the league and should have at least been the top 4. At the end of the day the current Core cant close. Matthews and Marner were pretty much invisible. Nylander and Spezza combined 8 goals and 13 points over the 7 games. M & M? 1 goal and 9 points. Not good enough from players making more than 10 mill |

agree, I have 2 leafs fans on my adult team, we have them on suicide watch. I kick the tires pretty hard with the Leafs. They have 4 O players eating up huge cap space. It feels like Marner might be the one they might move.
Look at Cap Friendly, no picks, their bottom seem to be all FA's etc. Side note, Thornton seems done to me. |

From last thread:
Part of me wonders if we should be looking for a high priced free agent or trade as compared to the "right fit"
No one would say Niskanen was a "top pair" all situations dman in a vacuum, but he was definitely the "right fit" for what we needed at the time.
I hope Fletch doesn't pull a "Bryzgalov" and throw a poop ton of assets and money at the shiniest toy out there when he could find the best fit. Maybe that is the same player, maybe not.
Who or what that is is why he makes the big bucks.
/**************************************************************/
I mentioned this yesterday as well. I think the GM will have tunnel vision and go for the big name via free agency or trade. I think he will fail miserably in the free agency market in terms of the top players like Hamilton. He will then overpay in a trade for name player.
Speaking of Hamilton he seems to get mentioned a lot as a free agent target. Tell me why he would want to come here if the money is equal across the board? |

We get it clown. The GM sucks and can’t do anything right. Oh and no one wants to sign here.

Speed, Skill and Toughness is what its all about in this league if you want to win a Cup. The Leafs, like the Oilers, have the first two but they seriously lack the 3rd, toughness! The Oilers have the 2 top scorers in the league and it got them nothing more than a 1 and done as well. Every year its the same thing, in order to go deep in the playoffs you must have players who want to go to the dirty areas and get garbage goals and defenseman who make you pay for going into corners for pucks. The Oilers and Leafs are just not built that way, and that is why they continually fail. Matthews and Marner combined for only 1 goal in this series, and that is just unacceptable!
But at least they made the playoffs, unlike our Flyers who unfortunately lack all 3 qualities! |

I think I'd rather miss the playoffs than continuously lose in the first round with a "stacked" roster. The way they choked this series away was really impressive. I know they lost Tavares and Muzzin, but still. |

Here is a list of UFA RHD sorted by ice time.

I wonder if any of these guys can be a "right fit" for us. Doesn't necessarily have to be the top tier guy like Hamilton. - MBFlyerfan
The handedness gets overblown. Shouldn't matter what hand they are if they can play each side effectively. Though this coach prefers the left/right dynamic.
Larson ( 4 year) Savard (3 years) would be solid additions. No idea what their price tag will be or what term they eventfully get.

The series was classic goalie stands on head and mind (frank)s the other team into the ground. Carey Price was ridiculous. His glove hand was unbeatable. He was tracking deflections like they were coming at him in bullet time.
If Price is gonna play like that moving forward, I wouldn't wanna be Winnipeg or whoever else they may run into.

To have a plan, one must first have a vision. Who is painting the vision of what they want this franchise to be? Corporate owners? I think not. Sadly, I coming to the conclusion that without solid (non-corporate) ownership, this team is going nowhere. There is no accountability now that Ed is no longer around.

I agree. It must have happened but I am having a hard time recalling a corporate owned team that won a championship. |
