The Pens will need more than a rejuvenated power play to contend this season. Even though they have been able to weather these early injuries, the division looks tougher than last year. Need to find more scoring from Geno’s line. Goalies need to stay healthy and on top of their game. Like last year, it will probably go down to the last week to determine their playoff position. Nothing comes easy this year. |

How so? They have been playing fantastic. If the pp gets going I'd bet we have more wins. Now if they were playing like last season then yea I'd agree. |

Gonna feed off of the Trotz convo last thread. When he was with the Preds they should have been trying to upgrade that offense with him there. Probably could have won a cup. Always had an amazing D and Rinne was great. |

Funny how Galchenyuk’s name wasn’t even mentioned as an option for the PP. Phil this Phil that. He’s gone, Galchenyuk has a great shot and has been misused. |

Ok lol so let’s continue to struggle then. He’s a PP type of guy and wouldn’t hurt to see him there. |

I don't think you're quite grasping the concept of setting up a PP. |

Serious question because I honestly can't remember. Was James Neal on the top pp when he was here? |

He hasn’t earned a spot on top pp, but if Letang is out tomorrow and no Hornqvist do you try him? |

The best power play no matter the talent level is always cycle the puck back high and get a lot of shots through and cash in the rebounds. Malkin, Hornqvist, Crosby, Guentzel, Letang. |

This team had an amazing pp long before phil..and will again after. |

Wow, an entire blog about a somewhat major Penguin pitfall (the pp) and not a single mention of Jack Johnson. Amazing. Are you sure he's not to blame for the ineptness of the superstar-loaded first pp unit?
Why not Rusty in Phil's old spot (he's gone RW, get over it already)? He's right-handed, is a fast skater, and has a decent shot. It's certainly early enough in the season to try things. |

I'd like to at least try him after 21 straight tries on the PP without scoring. Nothing wrong about that. |

While he has had trouble making it out of the second round, a few of the times it’s because they run into the eventual Stanley cup champs. I don’t really think you can fault a team from getting eliminated by the champs. My question to you would be, who do you put ahead of him? How many coaches, currently coaching that is.
Before looking at the list I would have said Queneville.
After looking at it, theres not much more. maybe Laviolette. The list kinda made me think there really just arent any elite coaches. other than maybe Bowman and Q.
To what grinder said,
Yea, more of right guy at the right place at the right time sort of thing. but with the teams he has had, he has to take some of the blame for their lack of playoff success. To give coaches a pass is also wrong. |

I'm assuming with that double negative there that there is in fact room for him on that PP.
thoughts? |

Yet, you still have to bring up JJ on your own...weren't/aren't you one of the ones calling RW obsessed regarding JJ? |
