Glad he's back, depth in Charlotte took a hit this year and they need a steady hand back there.

Good Signing. His game mirrors that of Brett Pesce. If he doesn't earn a roster spot I can imagine that he would be very coveted trade fodder. The way he plays he would be top 4 on a lot of teams. He is very defensively sound with a little bit of offense. He is just caught in a logjam in Carolina.

So, why bring in Gardiner? Trade coming?

Gotta be something. They're over the cap now... Maybe the long rumoured McGinn + for Puljujarvi?

Going for Pulju would make sense. You don't think Faulk's the odd guy out?

Maybe:

Pulju
Oilers 1st

Faulk
Bean

Carolina sheds some salary, adds a high risk/high reward prospect and adds a 1st rounder to help keep the pipeline stocked?

So Dzingle and Gardiner both inked for a combined 7.38M AAV. Both great bargains and you guys really needed a LD. I assume Hamilton or Faulk is being shopped?

I mean they did trade Hall for the slowest D in the league, so anything is possible. But this screams NO to me. Faulk is a UFA after this season. No chance he resigns in Edmonton. You would have to switch him with a player that would stay, contractually, such as Slavin/Hamilton. Lastly, Edmonton could very well be a lottery team, so their 1st should be untouchable.

Hamilton will cost them more than Pulju, Slavin doesn't seem to be for sale.

The Oilers are a mess and there fan base has to be fed up with "winning" the draft lottery. Trading that pick could send a message to the fans and the team that they are expecting to win.

They need good NHL players, don't agree that Faulk wouldn't be willing to resign with Edmonton--they do have McDavid afterall. Adding Bean to the fold should help take the sting out of losing a first (or if Faulk leaves as UFA).
