I do not know were they are cap wise but they need to sign a few players. i do not know if this signing would be a smart one.

They already were a 3 line and 2 defense pairing team.

At 29, this term would be questionable even if he was healthy. With how injury prone he is, I can safely say this is a huge mistake, especially with a team whose window is closing.

He's played in 91% of his games over the last six seasons.

I don't like the term because of his age, but so many people act like he's missed 50 games a year for the last ten years.

This is not the nitpicky criticism it may seem. Just a musing on the "he's one of the best of all time" comment.

Karlsson is currently #8 all time in points per game for defensemen. No active player is even close. He's wedged in a group that's not quite on par with Orr/Coffey/Bourque but is significantly ahead of guys like Lidstrom/Suter/Letang. So, offensively I'd agree he's one of the best ever (caveat - his total games played is WAY fewer as he's still young).

But, he's also the second worst career +/- in the top 10 all time D point scorers (4th worst in the top 25).

So, is Karlsson really one of the best D ever, or is he just a guy who is offensively talented and skates backwards pretty well?

Screw Hayes...I'll take Pavelski on a 2-3 year deal for 7-8m instead

I do not mean this as a dig to the Sharks, but that aging core? If they aren't smart with how they build around everyone this is going to be an expensive ugly team.

Joe Pavelski is a HELL of a player, but investing in him is sending this team in the wrong direction. Sharks need to go younger.

He's playing the games, but it's been a while since he's looked like himself, especially down the stretch.

TSN is reporting it's "approximately $11.5M" per year. So it's up there in the $90-some millions.

It's a gamble with Karlsson's Achilles injury but I can't fault the Sharks for going for it. Wings used to do it. Wilson likely believes his team can replicate what the Blues did this year. Get on a roll get a bit of luck and win a Cup.

Would leave them around $14 million to sign Nyquist, Pavelski, Donskoi, Labanc, Meier, Jumbo (if he doesn't retire)....

At least a few of those guys can't come back.

Unless they decided to try to make a trade or two and get a draft pick back

You'd be humping your chair if the Rangers signed Karlsson. 😂 #cheerforthelaundry
