Peter. I think you are very on track with this latest blog. I had said that if all these discussions and back-room meetings with Dorian result in a long-term deal for Stone then the dynamics of the trade completely change ..." a whole new ballgame" .
As a rental ,Stone is worth no more than Roslovic. OR . a 1st, Poolman, and Petan
As a signing...then Stone could be worth as much as Connor and a 1st . or Vesalainen and a 1st + Poolman, OR Roslovic and 1st + Petan.
I still predict it will happen by tomorrow and your blog did a good job in explaining why I made that prediction.
If there are some other salary cap considerations on a bigger deal such as Ryan then I think Kulikov comes into play on our side. They need defense. Heck....Laine could even be involved in a bigger deal. Trouba ? |

I gave my two cents worth at the beginning of the season when they traded Karlsson. Who ever they give the C to will be gone in sure time. Look at the history. Alfie, Spezza, Yashin, Karlsson. Now we had Stone and Duchene as honorary captains. Say goodbye to them both. They should have just given it to Bobby Ryan 2yrs ago. It would have worked itself out |

Jets and Ottawa should make a trade Petan for Paajarvi just to mess with everybody. |

Connor, Stanley, and our 1st for signed Stone.
Connor is still very raw, and offence only. He’s the perfect building block for Ottawa, and a brutal RFA situation for us.
Stone can sign a 6 year deal with us and be younger at the end than Wheeler will be when his deal starts. |

i see no reason why senators would take less assets just so they can get rid of ryan's contract. karlsson is gone, duchene and stone are about to be gone, the senators won't be close to the cap floor. they're clearly in a rebuild with no huge contracts that they need to sign and probably won't be bringing in top free agents but even if they wanted to, they would have tons of room to do it.
if the cap goes up to 83 mil as expected, the senators will be around 39 mil below that with only ceci, dzingel and colin white the only players of note that need new deals. if dzingel is traded as well then it just leaves ceci and white. so even with ryan's contract they will be well under the cap and have tons of room just to get to the cap floor. at this point they're better serve just keeping ryan to maximize any returns they get in trades rather than to try to lump him into any potential deal. once they're closer to contending then they can look to move ryan who would only have 1 or 2 years left by then and be much easier to move. |

Well, Ottawa is and has been fixated in dumping Ryan or part of his salary for awhile now, it is like an obsesssion. So it is a good chance that Ryan somehow gets factored into the deal.
Nobody wants that contract unless there is some major back scratching going on, then Ryan is sent packing somewhere.
Pete, you rumour monger, keep us informed! |

Agree with you - if deal happens, probably tonight or Louis Riel day.
Please NO Connor - if anything Laine.
Of your suggested offers, let's go for a signed Stone and a 3rd for Vesalainen, Poolman plus who, Stanley, and a 1st. Having said that, I'm okay with Laine going and more pieces added by the Jets and Ottawa including Duchene.
Would be shocker if Trouba was involved!
Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler, Ehlers-Duchene-Stone! Not bad!
Where's there smoke, there's fire! |

Agreed. I'm hoping its not anyone on the first line which includes Connor. Don't want to see Ehlers go etiher. Laine for the right price, or any other forward.....bye.

adding poolman and or petan would be like OTT adding Nick paul or magnus in a trade for Connor or Sheif, Petan and Poolman have little value and OTT is not interested in them.
From what ive seen most if not all of you have ZERO idea of what player values are in the NHL, if there is a sign and trade there will be 4 to 6 pieces going to OTT and one of them will be one of Connor or Ehlers to make the cap work, i would be shocked if the Jets trade Laine just because he is having a bad stretch....ALL players have them.
Stone can fit in the cap if one of Connor or Ehlers is gone, your not getting Stone for scraps... and FYI OTT got the SJS sharks #2 and #4 prospects, 2 young roster players and 2 picks, possibly 2 first rounders for EK and thats with very few teams trying to get EK, right now there is at least 6 teams that are trying to get Stone.
and if this article is true it possible Stone will not be alone going to the jets and Ryan is going to be a sens till his contract expires...they need to reach the cap floor and with Duchene guaranteed to be gone and looks almost guarantee that Stone too, Dzingle aint going to stay they will need contracts....maybe Stone and Duch o the jets? right now all we can do is speculate. |

Yea, young and dynamic - to me Connor and Ehlers should be basically untouchables. Hopefully Roslovic as well, 2nd line centre next season? |

The point of acquiring Stone is to make an immediate run for the Cup. So with this in mind, why the hell would Winnipeg move any of their top 6? The idea is to load up, not swap skill.

Does it really make any sense for the Jets to load up and take a run at the Cup this year? Perhaps it is better to just pass on Stone and know that the younger players will continue to develop and maybe the Jets best shot is still a few years out.
From an Ottawa perspective, they get an extra first round draft pick if San Jose wins Conference. Does it really help them to strengthen the Jets playoff potential? |

I don't see how it would even be possible for the Jets to do that. In order to add Ryan, and Stone, you guys would need to clear like 16 mil in cap space just for next year, that doesn't even count the new contracts for your RFAs
that's not even a conversation worth having at this point.
plus, Ottawa wouldn't attach Ryan to any deal at this point, they need his contract to reach the cap floor, especially if Duchene and Stone are gone. |

No it would make zero sense. Ryan's contract is one that the Jets don't want!!! |

Yes. I agree. The rumor mill is getting way out of hand here. Jets just want to improve. Ottawa just wants some good prospects, a player, and a pick or two, and are primarily scouting Niku and Poolman , and possibly Stanley on the Moose. Probably Roslovic, Lemieux, and Perreault on the Jets. Any of those players are expendable for the Jets in a deal.
Sens mgmt has been in Winnipeg long enough that the "familiarity breeds attraction" game works in Winnipeg's favor over some other NHL teams. |

Laine, Connor, Copp, Roslovic, Petan, Lemiux, Trouba, Chiarot, Tanev, Myers and Brossoit are all on expiring contracts. Some will walk, some will get extended, and some might get traded. Regardless, the Jets right now are as deep as they are likely to get, making NOW the EXACT time to take a run at the Cup. |

First off I think Connor, Roslovic, Niku and Vesalainen should all be off the table!!
But if you are talking a trade now or in the summer, I’m moving Connor not Roslovic. I think Connor has more value now and Roslovic (with Center potential ) will have more value down the road. I think a great comparison for Roslovic is Zbinajed, who took a little longer to develop in to what he is today. Let’s not pull an Ottawa and trade our future Zbinajed for Brassard like they did.
Stone is great but also Is having a career year!! Let’s remember that. Stone is a 60 point guy who’s very good in both ends but also never scored 30. These stats are not mind blowing. |
