Normally I would not do a new blog on this but lots going on today with Moose playing after Sens played last night and beat Winnipeg in OT.

So let's follow a timeline...

Frist

Second

Stone kept from practice today by the Senators.

Third

Fourth

So let's float out some spit balling theories here. I'm guessing on this but hear me out.

1. Mark Chipman is heavily involved in the operation of this team and when money is involved and long term liabilities he is signing off or at least has a say in some capacity.

2. There has been a lot of face to face communication between the two parties and probably including Stone's family who is in Winnipeg, along with his agent.

3. To fit Stone in the Jets have to shed some salary at least if this deal is expanding.

So theory number 1.

Sign and trade. The Jets are working with the Sens to sign Stone so he is assured to stay a Jet past this season and not be a true rental. Mark Chapman would want to know the contract liability he is entering.

Theory number 2.

The deal is expanding. To make this happen, and to ensure that Ottawa is in the position it's strategy desires, they see options to move more pieces. What exactly?

Theory number 3.

The Jets will take on a liability to ensure they don't gut roster- but how?

So I'm not capologist but according to Cap Friendly the Jets have 26 million in deadline cap space but 5.7m in total cap space. So they can add but probably have to move out too.

So let's take some wild ass guesses.

#1. The Jets want to keep Stone (as I have been saying) and to do the sign and trade Chipman is in the room to discuss the contract possibilities due to value and more. The deal is dependent on a deal being agreed to either with Ottawa or with the Jets.

#2. The are more players involved coming from the Jets and Senators and due to the volume of piece and contract values this is requiring the top level of management and ownership. Assume Dorian has called Melnyk.

#3. The Senators want to get rid of a contract liability and that's part of the bidding war they have created and this is like #2, high level talks.

Now let's expand the guesses.

So for #1 Dorian knows the Jets, or any team will not give up what he wants for a rental so to get what he needs he has to get a deal with Stone done. So back to yesterday's blog if Stone signs and extension does giving up Kyle Connor seem a worthwhile risk?

With #2 there are more players involved and perhaps a swap of two players at similar positions happens with a sweetener for the Senators if one does not re-sign. See below.

Not saying that's the trade to make just looking at pieces and needs and issues both teams face.

Finally there's number 3- and this one becomes scary as what if the Sens want to get rid of their biggest contract liability which is Bobby Ryan? *shudders* Think if it this way if they retain some salary like half would that decrease the price of existing assets that the Jets would have to pay thus not gutting them too much for the playoffs? It's a huge risk but again, if Chipman is there I'm not sure it's not on the table as anything like that would have to have his approval.

Again, not an endorsement just an idea based on the scenario. Without checking does the CBA allow for another trade where the Jets retain some of Ryan's salary too? He could be moved at an affordable rate for some team if the contract is the right value.

This is all guessing, but look at it this way... there's never been more smoke coming from the MTS Centre as there is right now. It's so high Riders fans are hoping it's the Bombers burning to the ground.

Stay tuned as this is not over by a long shot.
