I'd agree on that one Todd. Unless there is a bombshell dropped moving the top picks around, we take Nylander at 6... I'm good with that.

Now lets talk tendies...

MAF for a 2nd round pick and a prospect would be respectable. CGY gets want they need and PIT gets salary cap relief as well as an extra trip to the draft podium and prospect.

A. Nylander should be almost as good as W. Nylander.

I hear you guys have softened a bit on Bennett.... what all can he do, and can't do?

Heard someone say he might be a better winger than center, but I've barely seen his game.

it was his first full NHL season. Would be kind of weird to soften on the guy after one season, in which he did pretty okay.

I have heard that the general feeling in the locker room that Sam Bennett is the one player that everyone is the most excited about, more so than Johnny G. It will be interesting to see what Bennett does with his sophomore season.

I highly doubt he will be traded.

No worries & no softening on Bennett. A lot of questioning of Hartleys player usage , probably why is no longer coaching the team. We see Monahan & Bennett as our future top 2 centres, right now hard to tell who is going to be top line & who is going to be 2nd line. All we know, is we need a soul mate for Bennett like the way Moanahn & Gaudreau have meshed together.

I wonder if Bouma & our #56 would be a fit. Then we can resign Colborne at Bouma's money. Either that or Colborne & our 3rd for Fleury.

I like the idea of Fleury, perfect fit while Gilles gets his game to the NHL level. I see Carolina are out of the goaltender market, so one more less buyer. I think Fleury can get us to the playoffs the way Hiller & Ramo did the year before.

according to NBC Sports, the Flames have been in contact with Pitt about Fleury. Sounds like he could be moved for as little as a 2nd or 3rd round pick and a B prospect. If we can get it done for that then I'd be pretty happy to take him on. He's at 5.75 for the next two years and then if we resign Ortio for around 1 then the goalie tandem is under 7 per year.

I Proposed this near the end of the last blog.

I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time seeing us with a good fit at number 6? Yes there is some highly skilled guys with great upside but I'm just not sold. I get the impression that flames management feels the same way given the talk we might be willing to trade down.

I wonder if a trade involving JVR for Nylander at 6? Or even better if we could trade down and still have Nylander available then make the trade. We get a big body LW at a very cap friendly salary. They get the brothers together.

I herd BT mention he had a discussion with another GM about a trade that had been talked about 16 months ago. I'm not saying that's the trade that he's referring too or that would be all that's included but if my memory serves me correctly I do recall these rumours last year around this time? Didn't Burke trade to get JVR in TO?

Getting Fleury will make this team very competitive....hopefully he doesn't have a problem coming to cowtown...not sure why he would. Its a chance to play a ton and earn another good contract, good city, up and coming team. Pretty sure its the best place of all the options out there!

Am I reading to far into this, the fact that Raymond or Wideman have not been put on waivers for a buy out yet makes you have to believe that BT must have some takers?

Not sure on Raymond...but why would they buy out Wideman? He can play third pairing and they'll be able to flip him for something at the TDL. No point.

I think they have until the end of the month to put players on waivers with the intent on buying them out. I'm sure BT is just biding his time.

And I agree with you on a Wideman buyout.

Agree on Wideman no need for a buyout with him. Would Raymond have to be put on waivers? He finished the year in Stockton so not sure if there would be a need for waivers, could be wrong.

Sounds like it won't take much. I would prefer to trade picks rather than add a d prospect like Spoon, Anderson, or Kylington....maybe a 2nd and a 3rd....I think that's quite reasonable. Maybe they have interesti in Klimchuk? Could maybe let go of him with a pick?
