With the 2016 NHL Draft just over a week away we're starting to get a feel for what each team is hoping to accomplish.

While many assumed the Calgary Flames would stand pat and use the 6th overall pick to select a high-end winger, which could very well still be the case, it seems like the Flames are more than open to moving down.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned the possibility in his latest edition of 30 thoughts and, most recently, Damien Cox talked about it in his mock draft.

There are certainly top 10 teams that might be willing to move down – Calgary, Buffalo, Arizona – and have made it clear they’re open for business. What about Edmonton at No. 4? Most had anticipated that pick might be up for grabs, but now it seems more and more the Oilers might have their eye on London Knights winger Matthew Tkachuk.

At the six spot there will be excellent players available up front - likely headlined by Alex Nylander and Clayton Keller - and each of the top three blue liners will surely still be on the board. For a team looking to fill a specific need - say on defense - moving up and getting pick of the litter is an intriguing possibility.

I'm sure the Flames will get plenty of calls but I doubt they will move the pick barring an overwhelmingly good offer. Top-10 picks rarely move and at 6th overall the Flames are in a position where they can draft a highly skilled player and fill a big need in the process. Opportunities like that are tough to pass up.

That is why, when all is said and done, I think the Flames will stand pat and select Alex Nylander - as they should.
