Thank you to the Bruins and Sabres for making the Habs' next season easier with their trades.

No way the Sabres made playing them any easier than last season.

Just trying to understand. Why does Phoenix need to trade for Pronger to get over the cap floor? Could they have just signed someone useful as long as they need to spend the money anyway? Or is it that no one good wants to sign there?

Lehner is no upgrade to what they had last year in the net. Zadorov is out so it's even for O'Reilly. McGinn is good but he won't change the team.

Of course the Sabres will be better next season, but I still think that Lehner was a bad move.

Absolutely nothing i can say to defend Boston's moves and draft choices Friday.

Not since the big Joe trade have I been so ashamed of my team. . . .

I think its a way to get to the cap floor with an insured contract. The value of the contract counts towards the cap, but I would imagine that the actual money paid to Pronger would come from contract insurance, and not from the Yotes...

I had some fun on hockeys cap at armchair gm with the Bruins..........it's hard to put something viable on ice , unless Pasternak really picks it up.

The good ol' days are BACK in Boston! The franchise doesn't have a clue again.

Bruins fans always talk about "BIG BAD BRUINS HOCKEY" and this is exactly what they want and that is not having a clue in the front office while extorting the fan base and raising ticket prices to watch a crap hockey team that refuses to pay young talent because they don't bow down to the Jacobs family and take whatever poop contract is thrown at them. We are talking about the same franchise that won one championship in 39 years yet they are set on playing a certain "brand"of hockey.

By the way Julien's comments just goes to show how big of a train wreck the front office is right right now. He as a former player should understand these guys don't last forever and their time to make money is tiny compared to the rest of their life. Look at Pronger, Savard etc it just shows a man desperate to keep his job and willing to say anything to make his superiors happy.

The Hamilton trade and the picks there after reek of knee jerk reaction .Tight down to it seeming they had no idea of the picks in the earlier part of the draft .It seemed like they just drafted guys they had been looking at for a later pick .

In what world does Pronger make the HHOF next year? He is a classless bum who does not even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the HHOF.

So many NHL rules are a joke. The cap needs to go first and foremost

Pronger's actual salary is $500K for the next two years but his cap hit is $4.9mil. So, basically Arizona does not need to pay for $4.4mil of the cap space they will actually use.

I must say, Sweeney won't be winning any GM of the year awards any time soon. He set that team back at least 5 years. Not that habs fans mind though

Off the top of my head being one of TWO players in NHL history to win the Norris and the Hart in the same season?(1999-2000), winning the Stanley Cup, as well as his Olympic sucess...

He absolutely deserves to be in the hall, 3 years after he retires.

What a stupid (frank)ing statement. Go look at his career numbers, his accolades, his accomplishments, and his international success. He always played on the edge. And there's nothing wrong with that. Tell me where in the nhl rule book it says that you can't play physically, and try to get under your opponents skin??

I think Boston's moves were not just the biggest surprise for draft day but in the running as the biggest surprise of the last ten years as far as the NHL is concerned.

i definitely agree that he was great, and he will NO DOUBT be in the HHOF. that being said, he hasn't even officially retired yet. there is no way he deserves to go in this year. he was great, but not so great that he deserves to be put in the HHOF as a player who technically is still on an NHL roster. there should be 2 d-men who go in this year, and their names should be housley and lidstrom

I don't think Pronger being traded is a huge suprised. I was more suprised by Hamilton being traded. Pronger has a big contract with 500k actual salary paid. Since Arizona can't afford expensive players especially with the lawsuit this helps them quite a bit.

Now as far as Pronger woring for the NHL and not retiring, this is allowed because his job with the NHL would not interfere with him playing for the Flyers or the Coyotes. The injury is the only thing stopping him from playing, in which case the NHL would have to prove he will never play again and that he isn't trying to play again. He is still working out and keeping in shape and Doctors say he shouldn't play but ultimately it is up to the player, hence why he is in this position in the first place. We all know he isnt going to play but you cant prove he wont and isn't trying

I think his actual price was $550k but his cap hit was in the millions.
